vibration

I have some slight vibration after the install of my 4.10 gears. Would an aluminum drive shaft fix this? If not what would?

That seems to be a common thing and most say it can be cured with an Aluminum Driveshaft. If you don't want to spend the money for the new Driveshaft try rotating your current one 90 degrees and see if it goes away, if not try another 90 degrees and so on . . . .

What do you mean by rotate it 90 degrees?

Sorry I didn't explain, if you unbolt the drive shaft from the differential, you can bolt it back up rotated 90 degrees from the previous position. You can do this 3 times of course until you are back to where you started.

... and when you rotate it (to make it easier on yourself) mark with a paint pen or something, the relationship of the driveshaft to the rear flange as it is before you rotate it. It is balanced to be in that position. Since you have vibration, rotating it may help by shifting the balance thereby making your vibration less/go away. Reason I say mark it is just so you will know how much you are rotating it (just for your reference)...

I dont mean to hijack the thread but I have a similar problem. If I look at the passenger seat while on the highway, it's definitely shaking. I don't remember a shake with my old rims and stock springs. Recently, i put Eibach pro spring and the 17" y2k's from my old 01. Could the shake be because of the springs? A warped tire could probably cause this too couldn't it (the '01 was totalled last fall, but kept the y2k's)?

Just wondering because I'm about to get my 4.10's installed and if it's going to lead to more vibration, I think I'll just wait until i get an aluminum driveshaft and do them together... Thanks.

That is probably a wheel / tire balance issue. The vabration of the driveshaft is at a much higher frequency level and would probably not make the seat have a visable shake to it.
