pics of my friend mikes 06 gt shelby look-alike

what all is involved for the front end swap? bumper, bumper inserts, fog lights, grille , headlamps, hood. any deflectors or other small parts?

are the headlamps hid, or did your friend use aftermarket bulbs for that pic?

I know for sure that his headlamps are hid. I am not sure if he has a similar kit to mine, but he is quite familiar with brands because he was able to tell me some stuff about the kit I had after I told him about a ballast misfire if you start the car when the lights are on. I need to pick his brain about how he did the relay for his to turn them off completely and back on when the car starts so I can have them turn on and off. There is a safety feature on my kit that causes one of the ballasts to not fire if the car is started with the lights on. I believe it has to do with the electrical system draining power which could cause a bulb or ballast to blow when it is surged back to the ballast.

Rice.

If you want a GT500, wait until they are released and then buy one.

The body kit is fine, but the Cobra emblems are outright lies. What's next, "SHELBY" across the back? :nonono:

I wasn't going to say it, but since you broke the ice, I agree completely. It's not a Cobra, never will be a Cobra and badging it like one is my number one cardinal sin of Mustangdom.

As I stated in another thread, badging a Mustang as a Cobra is just as bad as the Honda boyz we laugh at with "Type R" badges. Be happy with what your car is and don't try to fool people into thinking it's something it's not. The only ones that will be fooled are people that don't matter and the ones that do matter will think you're a 'tard.

Amen

There is only one issue that I see with the badging, and that is the way that the front faschia is. The grille has an outline for the Cobra emblem, so to not have it on the front would look horribly out of place. Unfortunately it isn't like the SN-95 where the pony is interchangable. I believe it is the same way for the S197 V6 and GT's as well with the running pony.

Now, the side badges could be arguable as the car is not a GT500. It's the guy's car and he can do whatever he wants with it as long as he is happy. People will either like it, or they won't. He has put a lot of time, money, and effort into that car and I applaud that. It's not like he threw the body parts on a stock GT and called it a day. The car has power to go along with the badges despite the fact that isn't an authentic GT500.

Now, if it were a stock V6 with GT500 badging I would see a real problem with it because that is just too drastic of a difference. The car has a lot of balls to back up the badges with the procharger he has on it. As long as he is happy with the car, then that is all that matters. :nice:

I disagree entirely with the argument against rebadging. I dont think the intent of most people that want the shelby front end is to make others think it's a gt500.
I think most folks are like me and just like the looks of the shelby front end better. In my opinion installing the shelby front end is no different than adding on any other aftermarket hood, bumper, or fascia combination.
I intend on buying the shelby, bumper, headlights, fogs, etal.. everything except the hood just as soon as they are available.
I am doing this not to make people think it's a shelby, but simply because it's the best looking front end i've seen yet.

As stated above, it's your car, do what you want to. Just understand that a lot of people in the Mustang community will think you're a poser. If you do it, just remember to give the kid in the primered 86 Civic with the big wing and the V-TEC sticker on his windshield a friendly wave and the thumbs-up when you pass on the street.

Well said. I would not call it "posing" if you have the power to back up the badging. We (mustang community) shouldn't have to worry about any ricers beating this car and then running off to the import forums talking smack that they just killed a new Shelby. :nonono:

Im not bashing the car, he did a good job on it, I am just not a fan of rebadging.

How many of you guys/misha :D like the Saleen replicas? I am not a fan of those at all, and I dont see much separating those from the look a like 500.

Although its done left and right with the AC replicas, which I do like... but those a re a wee bit different story. Kind of a love/hate relationship.

Just to add to my previous post, what I want to do is not even really rebadging. I simply like the look of the shelby front end. I have no intention of adding any gt500 badges or side stripes or cobra badges etc.. Even though the shelby grill has the outline for the cobra emblem, I'm sure that could be covered up by some kind of a gt emblem.
As for the if you want a shelby buy one argument, I dont want a shelby as the extra horsepower is largely negated by the extra weight. I will just add the bumper, headlights, fogs etc.. because I like the look of the shelby front end.
As I said before, that is no different than any other mustang with an aftermarket front end treatment. Live and let live.

IMO Its what makes you happy,if its your car and thats what ya like then do it. What about Shelby Cobra's reproduction knock offs based on the 60's with 5.0 and 4.6, 327 motors. I havnt heard many complaints about those cars, there not really shelby Cobras. I think if you saw Mikes car in person you'd feel differently.Mikes put alot of hard work and money in his car and to condemn him for his choices isnt very kool IMO.After all some people hate yellow some people dont like black but it doesnt make it a bad color just because some dont like it. Dont get me wrong im not into that type of thing my self and might not be something I would do but in this paticular situation it looks pretty dang slick and could definately back it up:nice:

If someone posts something along the lines of "hey, look at this, it's really cool" they have to expect that some people aren't going to think that it's really cool. As someone that owns a Cobra, I feel pretty stongly about the Fauxbra issue, much as a Saleen owner probably feels about Faleens. Put all the body kits on a car you want to, but don't try to badge it to pass it off as something it's not.

Regarding the Shelby kit cars: Factory Five Racing doesn't sell their car as a Cobra, nor does it use Cobra badging. It is a "Factory Five Roadster" and uses FFR badging. If I ever have the space and time to build one, my license plate will be either "FAKESNK" OR "FAUXBRA" or some variation of those.

On a side note I meant no disrespect towards those who posted negative opinions about Mikes car, Friends will be friends and opinions are just what they are opinions:nice:

I thought opinions were like a$$holes and everyone has one?

Maybe we should do a poll? Is fake badging a mustang acceptable/ not acceptable/ or don't care?

I for one like the car but not the badging.:nonono: I'm all about being the real deal. :p
