So what should have been a 1 hour brake recall job is may end up taking 7 days. My dealer will have had my car for 1/3d of the time that I've owned the car when it is all done. Not happy.

Here's the rundown

Take the car in for the brake recall after Saleen called me to notify the dealer hadn't taken care of it before selling it to me. OK, so um... why didn't the dealer take care of this while it was in inventory? If it was a price/cost issue why didn't they at least tell me about the recall and fix the problem before I drove it off the lot the first time? That's the first really lame thing that's happened.

So ok the car is at the dealer and I get a call asking me if I know where the wheel lock key is. Turns out I wasn't given one, so I tell them to find me one.

They call back later because they can't find one and tell me they have a Saleen rep coming to sort it all out today (saturday). Well I get a call today telling me that the Saleen rep came in and swapped the locks and left but didn't provide them with some critical piece of the set (some lug or who knows what). They give me the bad news that my car needs to be held until at least Wednesday now since Saleen is closed and they can't locate the part.

My feeling is that the dealer is scrambling to get it done today and done right BUT my issue is two fold.

1) Saleen screwed up with the locks initially. I'm told they remove the stock GT locks and replace with their own set only in my case they put the GT locks back on and didn't provide the key.

2) The dealer should have been pro-active and handled the brake recall on this car while it was still in their inventory before I purchased it.

So I have a nice 5 day weekend and no car for cruising. NOT happy :bang:

I've been told that the dealer can't / won't work on a car until after it's been sold. If they work on it before they deliver it, they have to disclose that fact to any prospective buyer, and then they risk the buyer saying "I don't want that car, it was in the shop before I even bought it." Then, to take it a step further, the dealer might not want to tell a prospective buyer that the car he's ready to plunk big bucks down on needs to be fixed as soon as he buys it, so what happens is the dealer waits until you buy it and then tells you about the recall.

I was admiring a Lightning on the dealer's showroom floor one day and noticed a big ol' scratch in the paint on the front fender. I asked the salesman why they didn't fix it and he said they didn't dare fix it until someone bought it. If they tell prospective buyers that they'll fix it free of charge as soon as they buy it, most people would say "no problem" but if they fixed it first and then someone bought it, only to find out later that it had already been in the body shop, they risk legal action . . .

That makes sense but in the case of a brake line recall I'd say it is entirely different. I should have been told that day by the dealer that they needed it for an hour to fix the issue rather than 2 weeks later by Saleen after they followed up with my sale.

Anywho, the story is the dealer allegedly scavanged the correct lugs off another car on the lot to get me my car back.

So to verify this story... is it true that Saleen doesn't have wheel locks at all? That Saleen takes off the stock GT locks when putting their wheels on and just uses a plain set of non locking lugs? Because the set I have has no locks now and I'm told that's the way it is supposed to be.

Car is back in my garage. I had to quick detail it though since it looks like they parked it under a tree overnight and didn't feel like washing it for me.

I would not worry about locking lugs since they are more of a hassle than anything.

If someone wants your wheels they will find a way to get them, and if they do get stolen let insurance buy you a brand new set.

Yeah thieves will find a way to get whatever it is they want. I'm more concerned that I'm getting the straight scoop from the service people is all. I have an inherent distrust of all service people until they prove to me I should trust them.
