v6 headers

Hey guys whatsup, im new to the site and must I say I love it. It is extremely informative and helpful. Oh and of course everyone seems so kind.
I have a question though. What would benefit an 05' v6 more long tube or shortie headers? and h-pipe or x-pipe or just stock y-pipe?

On a dollar for dollar - most bang for the buck basis, the "H" pipe is the best value.

"X" pipes offer some slight increase in RWHP over the "H" pipe, but not enough for me to recommend it.

the short headers are just a waste of money .......... period.

I don't agree, Shooter. I had LTs before I went to shorties for the turbo system, and the LTs produced noticeably more torque. MAC sells some LTs for about $300, and they took my mechanic an hour to install (if that). They sounded great and made more power. So if someone is looking to maximize output without going FI, they are an integral piece of the puzzle.

Of course, they work very well with a SC, as you suggest!! As long as you don't plan on getting a turbo, LTs are a good way to make more torque.

just curious, did you dyno that set-up?

No, more's the pity, but I sold the set-up to a member on the 4.0 Collective. Hopefully he will and let us know what he ends up with. However, I would estimate (just an estimate) around 230 RWHP and 260+ RWTQ. I was at 205 RWHP/240 RWTQ w/o the headers, chamber, HiFlo cats, and dual exhaust, so these numbers are a guesstimate. But I will say that I felt a big difference, akin to when I added the CAI and tune.

If Furinox dynos, I will post the numbers here for posterity.

I'm not surprised about the Torque curve, but the boost in RWHP seems a bit audacious.

And dont you have to reloacte or remove the Cats on this set-up too?

Yeah, it is a guesstimate, probably on the high end!! :)

I guess what I am saying is that there was a very noticeable difference after the installation.

The cats are relocated from the diagonal to the horizontal area (still heatshielded), or they can be removed.

Depends on a couple different factors, the first being the service department at your local Ford dealer. Some dealerships are more mod friendly than others. I've seen dealerships that voided a warranty because the car had a CAI on it! Technically LT headers can't void a power train warranty by themselves...

*Please refrain from throwing out any Magnuson Moss act crap folks. That law it isn't worth the paper it's written on unless you have lots of time and money to support extended litigation.

As for shortys not providing gains... They may not show noticeable or sizable gains in peak HP or TQ, but often times they will provide substantial increases under the curve. At least that's the case with my '03 Cobra. I gained a lot of mid-range TQ & HP with the JBA shortys. They are also CARB legal if that's a concern based on your location & emission laws.

Like stated above... depends on the service department and the item requiring warranty work. I have full exhaust on my Cobra (Shorty headers, X-pipe, Cat-back) plus a FIPK and they have honored my warranty without any problems what-so-ever (replaced the drivers side head!). That's MY service department... I have to drive over an hour to get to them though. I know for a fact my local Ford service department would laugh in my face if they saw a full exhaust system on my car and I asked for powertrain related warranty work like that.

A lot of it to has to do with the type of warranty claim your attempting to make. I know guys with 600+ HP fully modified KB Cobra's who have had their Mach 460 radios replaced under warranty no problem.

If you put headers on the car and then take it in and try to get the catalytic convertor replaced because it rattles, no I don't think they would entertain a warranty repair because it's very probable the headers may have caused or contributed to the bad cat. Now if you brought it in with headers & aftermarket exhaust and needed the alternator replaced because it went bad they shouldn't have a problem with that.
