Hahaha, after too many things happening (original Pypes X breaking, cracked engine mounts, moving out, ending college, job searching, etc), I'm finally able to order my exhaust.

I picked up an SLP Catted X!! :flag::D

How hard is it to swap out the converters?

Anyone have this matted up with a pair of Flows? I might pick up a catback later on. What does everyone recommend?

swapping out the cats isnt as quick as you may think. Its a simple job, but not quite 5 minutes like it may seem. Those little bastards like to stick in the down pipes and can be a pita to get out. If you have access to a lift, it will make it a LOT easier.

The race pipes are even more of a pain to get out.

For that mid-pipe I dont know that Id run flows. I have it with my Bassani exhaust right now, I'll post a vid later. I think the LMII's, Powerflos or Borla/Steeda cat-back (not stingers) would sound nice with it.

My SLP Experience

I posted this in the 5.0 forum as well:

I have run an SLP catback for about 18 months on my 4.6 V8 GT Conv.

I recently decided to go the rest of the way with SLP long tube headers, SLP X Pipe and SLP cats.

The cats are easy to install, the headers are not! It took many hours of pain in the garage. Also if you are installing on a 1996 - 2004 convertible you will have to get your welding kit out to modify the K frame.

The problem I faced once I got it all together was it was waaay too loud. Now I like a loud sound, but this was ridiculous.

So I went out and bought a new Flowmaster cat back system, it now sounds very nice indeed and I have not lost any flow or power.

So I now have a pair of SLP catbacks for sale with lovely polished tips if anyone is interested? Very good as catback, if your system is already modified from the catback point forward I would not reccomend SLP cat backs. You need to go for a good single box type muffler rather than a straight through resonator.

SLP do make a muffler box catback too, that may be ok.

Cheers Gordon

+1 for what Teh Helt said :nice:

How could you not reccomend the SLP cat back. They are awsome. Its to let everyone know your coming so they can move or be :owned: . I have had them for a while on my 04 GT Coupe and they get better with everyday that passes:D

did you try to jack it up to maximize clearance?
Sure did. Its not a huge problem, just gotta take it easy. My SLP cats have always hung low. I'll be selling the X this week, so the cats and downpipes are up for grabs *shameless plug*

BTW, does anyone know an average price for an install of the pipe? i honestly dont feel like installing it (i had to reinstall my old one about 8 times).

the nuts have already been broken loose last year, so nothing should need to be cut off.

I have almost the same exact combo you are thinking about. I have 2-chambered flows with the catted SLP X-pipe. Did the install myself without a lift. It took me a while, but all the bolts can be reached with enough extensions and swivels. I like the way it sounds with the higher compression of the headswap. Drone was reduced a lot on the highway compared to the stock mid pipe. Its pretty quiet at low RPMs, but really opens up around 2500-3000 with a nice growl. Never had the cats out. Not too many people run an X with flows, but it's nice to have something unique sounding.

Well, it USED to be unique, now there will be two of us in Baltimore.

Yea, i can do the install myself, i just dont feel like it. though i may end up just doing it myself back at my parent's place (my ramps are too steep with the chin spoiler).

btw, you know how strict emissions are here in maryland? i'll gladly remove the converters from time to time if the po-po arent going to wring my neck.

btw, what part of baltimore are you from?

I'm up in Harford County. The local police here have never given myself or anyone I know a ticket for exhaust. I've heard it's only a repair order to put emissions equipment back on if they do pull you over + a small fine. As far as emission testing, I think as long as you have an 1996?? or newer car, they just hook up a reader and see if any emissions codes show up. Cars older than that have the emissions sniffed from the tailpipes. I'm due this fall to get tested with the SLP midpipe.
