Ok well I just drove back home to Charleston, WV from Cincinnati. For those of you who want to do cams but are afraid of losing gas mileage, take my advice: DO IT! Seriously, I have lost NO fuel economy with my 262's. I drove the 4 hour trip on a little over 1/2 of a tank of gas with the a/c on, and trust me, I tested the cars new-found power quite a few times on my way home...no difference in mileage. When I drove the car up there from home it took the same amount of gas. Not that fuel economy should be a concern anyway....WE DRIVE MUSTANGS.

As for the power the cams added, the only way that I can explain it is that it feels like some kind of super vtec kicks in between 4500-5000 rpms. Except unlike vtec, this ISN'T gey. It starts to pull like crazy right about the time that it USED to fall flat on its face. Oh...and the lope sounds awesome. I'll have vids up sometime soon, but I bought one of those throw-away digital video cams, so I don't want to have it developed until it's full.....shouldn't take me long :D

In conclusion, cams are awesome, and they don't hurt mileage (atleast the 262's don't). Get 'em!

do you need new valvesprings for 262's?
Stock springs are fine if you don't have too many miles but I didn't swap my 120+ springs in mine. I'm at 160+ now with no problems.

Just a comparo of my major mods:
4.10's, plenum and TB---14.7 at 94
PI intake----------------14.5 at 96
Comp 262's and tune----14.0 at 100
Drag Radials-------------13.8 at 103.

As you can see the cams gave me a very good jump in times and mph. I've only ran 4-5 times on the cam swap and another 4-5 times with the stickies. My best runs before the cams were in the 15-20 times range for each mod group. I probably have some left if I get some more practice in with the cams so the results could be even better.

1. I didn't install my cams, MD motorsports did, but I'd say that it's not TOO difficult IF you don't change the springs, because you can do it with the heads still on. For my swap, the heads came off, making it easier to install springs (PI heads weren't on the car yet anyway).
2. Yes, it's dyno tuned.
3. I didn't get a before dyno, but it sure doesn't FEEL like I lost any low-end from the cams. This car pulls harder at every RPM than it used to, especially after 4500 RPM's.
4. You don't NEED springs, but I would recommend them, just to be safe.
5. Yes the lope is awesome, it idles more roughly than stock, but it's not super agressive. I've seen the next step up (vt stage 2's, comp 270's, etc.) and I think that 262's or stage 1's are the perfect cam if you want a perfectly streetable DD.

I have 15 minutes of video left to record, I've already got two idle videos, one video of someone who looks just like me (but it's not me, it's my evil twin or something) testing the new power in a straight stretch :D , and one video cruising on the highway on the way home from Cincinnati. Is there anything else you guys would like to see? I'll record just about anything other than a street race :nono:

262's are a good choice i love mine i might have lost a little in the low end but it isnt much but it pulls so much harder about 3500 or so by 4500 they are really kickin in the idle is nice also and didnt do springs

How about a 15-minute burnout? :SNSign:

That's a hard question to answer, because I had a PI swap done at the same time. Also, the heads turned out to be warped, so it cost me double the labor.
Excuse me for the silly question, but nobody anywhere decided to take a straightedge to the heads beforehand? I do that to every set of used heads that I lay my hands on.

The warp was so minor that you couldn't even tell. When I got them, I layed them on a flat surface, they looked completely fine. I should have taken them to a machine shop first thing after getting them. My stupid mistake. MD couldn't tell by looking at them or by using a straightedge either, obviously.

Wow, I have found a head that had warpage of only .002 with my straightedge. A flat surface won't do it, you need a precision straightedge. These modular heads are really particular on straightness and surface roughness.
