4.6L SOHC 28.7" 28" 26" 600 lbs.
4.6L DOHC 30" 28" 30" 576 lbs.

Add 100lbs to the DOHC weight for the 03/04 Cobra engine, its an iron block. Iron block 4.6 - 185lbs, 85lbs for aluminum. Some of the newer modular iron blocks weight 200lbs.

And if you go with aluminum heads on the Windsor, subtract about 20lbs.

Some would say that the new 03/04 cobra motor is far better than the pushrod engine, but put 15-20lbs of boost on a 408W with AFR 205s, and I'll be surprised if you don't get just as much or more power than the 4.6 with 15-20lbs of boost.

Plus, you'll have 150-200lbs off the front end.

Now, I love the new Modular motor for several reasons, but if I had to pick between the two engines I have right now, I'd pick the 331 in a heartbeat.

Nemesis67, I started a thread about my 'vert that may be of interest to you if you are looking at SERIOUS horsepower. I haven't done anything recently on the car [getting ready to switch the GTO over from the STS to twin front mount turbos from an Aussie outfit], but my blown 408W is about finished.

Have a read: http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=634491
:nice: Very nicely done! Although I don't think I need 800+ HP (Need-vs-Want) I would be perfectly happy with 600 HP.

Sounds like it was a theft recovery. Seats/wheels missing.. Maybe that was an engine that the dealer replaced under warranty, and they stuck it in there? :)

Just for fun: There's an 03 Cobra in Dallas that's going for just under 20K. I went to see it and I'm sorry to report that the previous owner did not take care of it:nonono:
This S.O.B took out the original interior and replaced it with some cheapo black pleather-like seats (front and back). He put 99 GT rims painted black on it. And beat the living crap out of it. It's got scratches and dings all over it, the rearend is "shoddy", the sales guy's word not mine, and third gear slips. When it was sitting there idling in front of me the "idiot": check engine light was on steady and when I reved the motor one time the poor thing died on me. I looked at the sales guy and said "When you guys decide to sell this thing for 9K less, give me a call." and walked away in disgust. Well to get to the point; first the last owner should be dragged into the street and beaten with a rubber hose. Second he should have to apologize to every True Mustang owner. And third I emailed the dealership that has it and made them an offer that was pretty rediculous. But I ended the email saying "laugh now, consider it later."
This could be the donar car that I would use to get my 03-04 Cobra motor, if I were to be so inclined.
But for now I'm still using a stroked 351!:D

When I was talking w/ Tracy [the engine builder] we were talking about that little bit of fear one gets before starting the car and heading out. He says that is his idea of the "perfect" street engine :). He has also said that he'll send me a couple of different pulleys just in case I want to drop it down a bit. At least I will have the option of shifting at 2000rpm and avoiding much boost...nah! That can be my wife's technique with it. She is used to driving her WRX, and isn't comfortable getting into it hard in the GTO [about 500 rwhp in 3800#].

I don't need 800...or even 600...

...but, what the heck!
