I have a 1998 Mustang and i want to put a new deck in it.
The stock system has two decks, one for the am/fm and tape and another below it for the cd player. since i will be replacing the two decks with a single one where can i get a delete plate that will allow me to turn the empty space into a lil cubby hole where i can put my phone or other junk?

thanks.

p.s. any recomendations on a decent deck in the $150 and lower range? i would like to be able to plug my ipod into it if possible. i was thinking about a Song Xplod.

i think what youre looking for is called a universal pocket. You can buy a universal pocket from pretty much any place that does car audio install. best buy, good guys, or a local shop. i think wal-mart might even carry it. itll cost you around 10-15 bucks. as for a decent deck.....id go with pioneer or alpine. imo....sony is crap. as for plugging in your ipod...if you want to just be able to hear your ipod thru your speakers...make sure the deck has and auxillary input to plug it in to. if you want to be able to control your ipod through your deck...an interface is required for that and will probably cost you an extra hundred bucks or so.

I agree with everything except for the Alpine recommendation. I have less returns with Pioneer then anything else.

i started off with a entry level pioneer and it was good to me. simple layout and it gets the job done. ive owned alpine headunits ever since i upgraded. i love alpines i think think theyre great and ive never run into any problems with them. of course thats my preference and my experience. shop around for something you like...and i hope you find whats best for you!

The universal pocket part number is Metra 88-00-9000. I recommend Kenwood decks. There are many models that have an aux input. These decks are great I have the same unit (kdcmp-922) since 2003 with not one problem. I probably just jinxed myself

here is a pic of mine

i have my aux cord running right through the back of the cubby too, had to drill the hole but no big deal
