I bought a 95 vert with the 460 system, the previous owner installed a decent blaupunkt head unit in it but it must not be going through the amps. It distorts real bad before you can get any real volume out of it. I bought another 460 head unit and tried to hook it up. It looks like they did the right thing and didn't cut any of the factory harness off,but I'm not sure. When I hook up the 460 head, I get no sound from anywhere. It has power, tunes, shows volume, but no sound. My question is, how many plugs go into the back of the head unit? If I can get sound out of the blaupunkt, why cant I get anything from the 460? HELP PLEASE. I searched and have the schematics but there not very clear, I cant read half of it, and don't understand the other half:shrug:

they probably did an amp bypass and were running the speakers off the HU, which is another reason it probably sounded bad. The stock HU isn't made to run speakers off of so thats probably why it isn't work.

Thats my guess, some will correct me if im wrong

Yes , they bypassed the amps with the blaupunkt, but I unplugged it and plugged the mach 460 back in. i had to undo the aftermarket adapter and plug the factory harness back in, along with the 8 pin small square plug with the gray cover on it. The 460 head unit has a small 2 pin socket under the 8 pin. What is it for? Also, there is a metal tab that looks like it mght be a connection for a ground, just above the socket for the antenna, but I dont see a ground wire anywhere. I also bought the factory 460 CD player, it has 2 sets of wires comming out of it. One set has the factory 6pin connector on it and goes to the 460 h/u. The other set has 5 wires and no plug.they are
blk,ltgrn,orng,purp,blk/ltgrn. where do these go to?

All 3 factory amps are there and plugged in,yellow wires to back amps have power ,with a test light. I cant get to the front amp to test with the test light ,but all the factory wiring seems to be plugged in.

This sounds stupid, but as I'm typing this ,I'm asking myself "could this be somthing so simple as a missing ground wire to the H/U case"? (metal tab on back of case looks like a ground tab), but if that was the case would the H/U even power up?

I believe tha factory 460 shouldn't have ANY bare wires hanging behind it. Only plugs, so you are missing a plug. That may be where the seperate CD player hooked up. I just can't remember the schematics.

There are no bare wires at the head unit. Everything plugs into it. I only have three plugs going into it,the large 8 pin, the small 8 pin with gray cover, and the 6 pin from the cd player. what is the small 2 pin at the bottom right corner for? And is there a seperate ground wire that goes to the metal clip on the back of the case just above the antenna connection?

I have 2 set of wires comming out of the cd player. one has a 6 pin plug that goes into the head unit the other set has five wires comming out of a red plug, where do these go to?
