I love it:

So my dad wants to get new wheels for his 06 GT (he'll get some Shelby GT500 wheels, from FORD with tires at least as wide as what the GT500 has). I got to thinking, how would they look on the 88? Right now, I've got the 99+ GT 5 Star wheels, so I've already got the 5lug conversion, and checking the offset, it should work fine. I'll cycle the 99+ wheels to my sister (99 v6). and if I'm lucky, I'll get her 15", and I can put an alternate set of tires on them :D. I'm thinking 2 tires that look bald, and 2 tires that are so skinny they appear to have come off a Geo metro.

Either way, I'm planning to put these 06GT wheels on the 88. In the photochop, they are sized closer to 16", so they'll look a little bigger with less tire sidewall. Should go nicely with the 300+hp combo I've got going, and it sounds like my dad may actaully start helping me take it furture... megasquirt. hehehe

So, I'd like to hear what everyone has to say? Look good, horrible, ect?

Only issue you might have is the offset, I know New mustangs use a different offset then the old ones but i am not sure how much different. They look good, but i think they will look better when actually on the car.

Dr.

The offset is very large... 2-3 inches. :(

You can stick a coke can between the fender and the wheel.

:bs: I measured the distance from the hub to the outside wheel lip on my dads 06 GT wheels (pictured above) and compared that to my 99+ GT wheels. The difference was nearly exactly 3/4", and I measured using 6" dial calipers. The result would leave the 06GT wheels tucked in 3/4" compared to the 99+ GT wheels. Both are 17x8.

You can confirm the difference in offset between the 94-04s and the 05+ mustangs by looking at these knock off GT500 wheels. Both are 17x9 knock offs for the 94-04s and the 05+s.

94-04 wheels: +24mm offset

05+ wheels: +44mm offset

Funny thing how the difference of 20mm = .787 inches.

Dr: Here's a picture with the 99+ GT wheels I have currently. That was before I put another spacer in the front to allow the center cap to clear the dust cap (hence it isn't snapped down in that picture). As you can see, they stick out pretty far. I expect the 05+ GT wheels to look more natural since they'll be tucked in a bit more. Probably closer to the stock pony wheels.

Good thing there are at least a few pioneers out there who will take the time to measure for themselves, and make something work than listening to what is said in forums... :nonono:

hmm, black ehh? Sorry, I'm just not a fan of black wheels. I don't much care for the look, and I really don't think it'd work on a blue car. haha.
I had some 14" chrome wheels on the car once. I loved the look, it truely was a muscle car look. I got tired of cleaning them, and wanted something with less sidewall and a more modern look, and got ponies. Ran those for a long while, and decided to try those 99+ wheels for a more modern look. I havn't had them all that long, but my family doesn't much like the look.
I love those 06 GT wheels because they are brushed aluminum, and have a really awsome 'modern muscle car' look to them. Besides, it is so much fun to have the current mustang wheels on an 18 year old mustang. hehe. It gets attention.

Sorry for the non researched post. I did see a 1995-1998 Mustang with 2005 V6 wheels on it and the offset was horrible, the wheels were sunk in 2-3 inches. I guess it fits better on the 89-93 five lug swap.

That is what I was basing my previous post on.

my bad, car looked black on my screen, but then again my monitor is shot. I still like the 99+ wheels on our cars though. I plan on putting some on my car in the near future.

Hey looks good! I need to get some 2.3 tags for my daily driver!

Do you have any drop on the car? I wanted to drop mine maybe 1.5" all the way around. I need to find some springs though, and I don't know who manufactures them...

Thanks. Yup, has some drop (cut 99+ springs, super stiff for autoX, but changing for drag type springs soon). It is probably around 1.5-2" of drop, I'm not really sure.
For manufactures: Eibach is the only one I know of.
