My dad's a royal pain in my @ss!!!!

My first car was a '72 Ford LTD four door. What a boat! 351C, dual exhaust with cherry bomb glasspacks that dumped under the front seats, just enough power to get myself a few speeding tickets. But it was all my parents would allow me to drive in high school.
That convertible you have is a great looking car, I would have loved to have had something like that to cruise around in back then. You could make that car look very mean, and then transfer the parts over to a 5.0 in a few years.
Although it may seem like an eternity, you will be 18 before you know it, and calling your own shots.
Things could always be worse, your dad sounds like a cool enough guy.

MY dad thought the first thing I would do when getting behind the wheel of a 5 spd 5.0 is get a speeding ticket or worse and wreck it. I showed him while having my permit that I could handle it, now having my license 8 months I have not had a single ticket or accident. I ama very good driver on the street, racing is what the track is for. Plus, I started out with a 3.8 V6 and stil have it... just be glad yours is a mustang and not a buick.

I started off driving with a V-8.Familys spare car at the time.
1971 Mercury Comet 2dr-302.

Handling and braking was crap, but I miss that car bigtime.
I need to find pics of my dads old comet. It was a beautiful car, him and his dad painted it in their garage, it was a nice blue color.

:D let me guess you loved it because it wasa Mustang but hated it becasue it had a V6?

how long did you drive it?

im starting to get over it now that im working on it a little more.

I only had it 6 months before it started breaking down...

I had worked all summer to save for a 302 to go in it and made good grades... and was about to start my Senior year in highschool soon. All the money I saved had to go to fix the car :(

So my dad felt bad and sold that clunker and bought me an 86 GT Convertible.

Oh and don't get too mad at your dad man... he knows what's best for you and dad's don't live forever contrary to what you might think. I'm sure there are a few people in here like me who'd give anything to have their "pain in the %$#" dad back ;)

Arent cheap, but I know comp cams makes them, probably a few other places.
http://cranecams.com/index.php?show...e=Auto&Cylinders=6&Engine_Make=FORD&Year=1983 .

What gears does it come with? A steeper gear will help alot.

gear in the rear? i was wanting to put a 4:10 in it but..do they make them for the 7.5 rear end?

and yeah grey5.0beast i know but. im going to have this car for 3 years at the minimum and i would like a different idle tone. if i spend 1,000 on it engine then so be it.

when i go to sell this car or if i just sell the engine and trans i will get some money for it.

plus its an old engine and i would like to go threw it anyways with new gaskets, cam, a carb, port the intake.(this would hell with performance a little bit right) a maybe make myself some headers. (I'm learning how to weld right now)

plus i have been thinking and I'm just going to start putting back a couple hundred a month when I'm getting money. i figure if i put back even a hundred a month that 1,200 a year and then when I'm 17 that would be 3,600 bucks. then if i sold this mustang for a couple thousand i would have somewhere around 5,000+ to find a 5.0 coupe or hatch with. :nice: ( got that idea from my dad :nice: ( guess he not as much as a pain in the @$$ as i thought.

ryan218... Why don't you just talk your dad into helping you build your first motor. early 302 blocks are cheap and good parts to put in them are all over the place. Maybe he'll like the idea of you two building a engine together. Then when your older you'll have your 302 and a good trans ready to go into it. Maybe ask him to take you out to a track when it's completed so he can show you how to drive it. I was 13 when my dad was teaching me how to drive, launch, drift and brake. Good old parking lots at night/morning.
