Hello y'all, I've got a problem with my Mustang. Obviously luck was not on my side down here in the intense southern heat and my intake manifold has cracked. My Mustang is a 98 GT (4.6L 2V) with about 85,000 miles (a little less then that). I've already called and spoken to Ford since I've known about the recall and was told that my car is no longer coverd under the warrenty. Great, they only extended it for 7 years and mileage doesn't matter. So, first question, am I really SOL on Ford fixing this for me? Second question. I've followed the forums for a while now and I like keeping up on performance parts for my car. One of the hangups on my model was that there was never a reasonable option for intake manifolds for my model. A couple of years ago my options were get another plastic intake or the Bullit intake which was close to a grand. I was wondering if anyone ever released an aluminum or performance intake for around $500-600 since it's going to cost me about $800 to get this all fixed up anyway. I appreicate any answers y'all can give me.

Yeah I can tell it's a common problem. I got a settlement letter in the mail about a year ago and I've been brushing up on the latest details. The more I read the more I realize that I'm going to have to pay for this. I guess what I'm looking for is a performance part that is superior to the plastic intake's quality. I plan on keeping my car for a very long time and when something goes bad I like to replace it with a better part then it had. I'm also dumb as dirt when it comes to fixing cars so it'll have to be done at a shop. Lord I live down in Charleston, wish I was closer to Atlanta, I know exactly where the stang would be sitting right now.

Charleston SC? Come up to Myrtle Beach for Mustang Week if the car is driveable!!! www.mustangweek.com

I think your best bet is either a stock replacement non-pi intake manifold (the improved ones have an aluminum crossover, instead of the stock plastic), or if you want to add a little more power get a PI intake with the aluminum crossover. But the PI intake will require a little more work than just a direct swap.

Aftermarket intake manifolds are way, way to expensive for these cars...:nonono:

do what Tom said. the intake itself is plenty strong, it's the coolant crossover that cracks. So if you have a PI manifold w/ aluminum crossover, your car will be very reliable and make a little more power than if it had the NPI manifold on it. Worst case scenario, if all you're looking for is reliability and not power, pick up a stock replacement NPI w/ the alum. crossover and it will bolt right up.

as others have said, use a PI intake with a little RTV at the water ports. you will also need a new 1999 water tube and o-ring. all this can be found for under $300 new with PI gaskets.

I'm installing a SuperCharger right now so I have a 2 year old NPI intake with aluminum runner and brand new gaskets (still in bag, never used) I would let go for half the price of a new one. Email me. See sig below for replacement slideshow.
