Well I finally got to put the new shifter in today, it's been sitting here since Tuesday. Was alot easier to install than I expected, since I have absolutely no experience doing anything mechanical. Just took it around the neighborhood real quick to make sure it worked okay, but I think I'm going to really like it. The best part was that I've always had a hard time getting the car into reverse, always had to run through all the gears once before it would go in, but now it goes right in.

bluextc, make sure you did not install the shift stops on your MGW. Your T-45 is made by Tremec and has integrated stops (older Borg Wagner version did not). If you did not adjust them properly, there is the possibility that you can do damage to your shift forks if your transmission pops out of gear.

Well crap, I did. Guess I'm back out there in a few minutes taking them out. :bang:
Thanks for the warning.

Good shifter from what I heard. I have Steeda Tri-x and it's
getting loose, used to be firm. I am thinking about get MGW. Please let me know how is it

Thanks

Well, I did some driving today and liked it, though I'm still getting used to it. Unfortunately I can't compare it to any others, because I've only driven with the stock shifter before.

Wait, I thought only the 3650 had the integrated shift stops... I believe thats what it said in the instructions that came with the shifter.. Am I wrong?

all Tremec transmissions have integrated shift stops.

The major problem with aftermarket shifters is that they have stops on them. To install them correctly, you will have to remove the stops completely. Our transmissions are built with internal stops.

The T-45 in the 1999-mid 2001s and the TR-3650 have the stops build in. The T-45 in my '97 was not built by Tremec, therefore I have to use the stops on the shifter.

I've driven a 98 GT with a Tri-ax and my MGW has a much more solid feel to it. In a couple weeks, the MGW loosens up, and it's a good feeling the first time you hit that 3-4 shift in under a half second. :nice:

When I first installed mine, I kept missing third because I was trying to shift just like with my stock shifter (pushing slightly to the right). That took a bit to get used to.

It's going to be a bit "stiffer" than you're used to. That's cause now you can "man handle" it and slam it into gears (2 - 3) without worrying about grinding. It will build your arm muscle up but know that it's a great short throw shifter.

As far as reverse, release the parking brake and almost let her coast a bit (clutch in, no brake pedal) to let her find reverse. Only a bit, you'll find what works for you.

Congrats!!! :SNSign:

Thanks, I'll try that today :)

i think they are full of it because my friend has taken multiple TR-3650's and T45s apart and he said there arent any stops inside the trans. as long as you adjust the stops on the shifter correctly then yo should have zero problems...

I don't get why Tremec would lie about something like that...

Btw, when I said, "coast" I meant about an inch or two, just to let the pressure off of the gear.

It worked perfectly. Thank you!! I've been fighting with reverse for almost 2 years, and it was great to have no problems with it yesterday.

And, I went in and took the stops out yesterday, I figured either way, there's not much chance of me overshifting anyway, I'm not weak, but I'm not a guy either, so probably not gonna shift that hard.

And, the more I drive it, the more I LOVE this shifter. Anyone considering it should go ahead and get it, in my opinion.
:D

I am really on the edge about getting the MGW. Only because the shifter now seems to shift so well. It seems like all I do is push up for the 2-3 shift and it does the rest. (It is a stock shifter, I looked). One reason I could like it so much might be that I had a 93 SHO before my stang and it was like shifting a freakin' truck. Also, how hard is the install? Thanks for any help. I really want one, because of how much everyone says it helps, but I don't know how the shifting could get much better..
