Need Info On Roush Side Exhaust

I am the owner of a 2003 Mustang GT. The car is completely stock (except for the 18" Roush Chrome Wheels). I am looking into converting my exhaust system into the Roush Side Exhaust. A friend of mine also has a 03 GT with an exhaust system (I'm not sure what kind) that definately lets people in the neighborhood know when he is coming. I don't necessarily need something thats going to get me a ticket for noise pollution everytime I pass a cop, but I do want a system that lets everyone know that I mean business. Can this be achieved with the Roush system? I have already contacted a Roush parts dealer and he informed me that the default mufflers that come with it are Magnaflow and are just "slightly" louder than the stock exhaust. For me this is not good enough. He also suggested maybe Spin Tech Mufflers. The last concern that I have is that I heard side exhaust systems rob cars of Horsepower. If that is true, exactly how much HP does it cost the vehicle? I can live with anything less than five. More than that I would say forget it and get the customary rear exhaust like everyone else.

well, then I say forget it...

1-Roush/Magnaflow exhaust is quite as stock
2-Roush/magnaflow enhanced muffler is only marginaly louder
3-SC323 is much louder. People will notice. But so will the Cops. And it needed to be welded in
4-I don't care what they say. ANY side exhaust system that use 180deg turn will rub some power(4~8hp i would assume)

Unless your going for full roush conversion(with bodykit and all), i say stay with normal over axle system

i custom made my side exit for the roush kit. i heard the stock one and it does sound just like a stock stang, then heard the "sound enhanced" ones and they sounded like your normal magnaflow/flomaster droney mellow tone exaust. boring.

i used a Spintech 333SCS(i think thats the part number) muffler, it has the inlet and outlet on the same side which is exactly what you need. then you just weld them in before the rear end, and run the outlet to the sides.

i love spintechs, give the car a big block sound, but unless your running catless x/h pipes, theyre not too obnoxiously loud but they sound badass. if i were to match the sound, id say go watch "Gone in 60 Seconds" and if you like the sound Eleanor makes, youll love the spintechs in side exit configuration. besides, thats what they used in the movie for Eleanors sound.

look at mine, i custom made it, no 180 degree turn, just two 45's making it out the side. Just implemented a maganaflow barrel resonator and the dual tips on each side. It's the way to go. Very growly, not TOO loud, but ricers seem scarce in my presence

4 to 8 horses??? Wow it takes that much away?

I sure would like to see some pics of how you did your exhaust.

There is no proven fact that the side exhaust robs horsepower. Even on a dyno the systems were almost identical. Within 1-2hp. Look at the stock exhaust on a GT and tell me the bends over the axle don't rob some horsepower?

I believe its more along the lines of the max that you can do to your exhaust.... in the end the side exit will be lower.

Also I've seen stock Roush (1&2) cars Dyno and they have ALWAYS been lower than the unmodded GTs on those dyno days.

Not gonna convince me of that. But its all good!
Back to the guys original question. It may "rob" horsepower but it will not be a noticeable amount!

Well, lets put it this way

My old magnaflow was straight. But my Roush side exhaust have 1 tight 180degree bend with redius of one or two inches. then it have 110degree bend.
Proven or not, its pretty obvious.

As obvious as smoking and lung cancer ... but people still want proof.

I've seen a 'few' dyno runs with ROUSH side exiting exhaust and straight thru configurations ..... to the order of 1-4 rwhp loss.
If you notice that or better yet, if you're concerned with that level of loss ..... don't bother.

And you do get mad looks with a side exit exhaust.

+1

expecially when your car looks like on from a movie, "man, that aint no 67 Eleanor! its even better than the real deal!" hear that all the time.

i did not feel any difference with the side exhaust. of course though, im still on the stock catted H pipe and bolt ons. only difference was when i finally got the tips in and installed instead of the turndowns that were there, its agressiveness became more mellow toned. reminds me of my boat actually.

side exhaust is great! i had removed the long cats let the baby primaries remain and installed glass packs in place of the long cats. had a 45 degree turn on the piping and this was on my first mustang 99 v6 and yes i would get the looks. ricers thought it was a cobra LOL

only problem was that it would bottom out on speed humps if i went too fast. then again it was a custom configuration.
