alright, i believe i have asked this here before, but im not sure, so i'll ask again.

friend of mine at work has an 86 svo block, with the forged internals from a TC motor, otherwise has everything else from a 93 2.3 n/a. its a 5speed with regular 3.73's and has his exhaust as a 2.25'' that dumps out the muffler under the body of the car, no cats or any of that stuff. he said he used to have it turbo'ed but the bearing went out in the turbo so he just made it n/a, so i assume it has a tc ecu? or can he even run one of those without boost?

basically, he's a cool guy, but i dont think he's saying true things, so im checking with you guys for credibility of his 2.3 knowledge. he said his track times W/O turbo were mid 15's. does that sound right??? i know the only diff between the tc and the n/a are the pistons i believe as well as a certain type of valves and thats it. so i just dont see how him having forged pistons can make his 2.3 that much faster than mine, but i've also yet to race him so i cant really use my car as a gauge...

It won't run 15's without the turbo...maybe 19's.

To see if he is using a turbo ecu or not, see what kind of air meter he is using. If it's mass air, it's not the turbo ecu. The turbo ecu uses a big ugly funny shaped vane air meter...

Sounds like he's blowing smoke to me...

yea, i thought i might have, but thats when i just met the guy, and now i work with him, and have gathered more info on his car. i just wasnt sure about asking it here or on mustangforums.com....i knew i was asking around for opinions.

i think he is just saying it runs mid 15's and wont race me so i can find out.

with the dished pistons swaped out for the flattops, without boost the car will be slower then a stock n/a 2.3, and i know that they definately dont run 15's. do what stinger said, see what kinda air metering system is on the car, and that will tell you if it is indeed a turbo comp. as for the pistons no way to know for sure but to crack the head off.
