Ok well first the good news: The bumper and fender are fixed from my accident and the wheel has been replaced with a brand new oem one.

Now the bad news: They called me this morning to tell me my car would be ready for pick up this afternoon. So I go, look everything over, and am thrilled I'm getting my car back after almost 3 weeks of being in the shop. So I'm driving to the rental car place with the rental car agent driving the rent car behind me. I go over 25mph and hear this god awful squeal/squeaking coming from the wheel that was hit in the accident. I called the person behind me (i'm a personal friend of hers) and she tells me the wheel is wobbling like crazy. Well I wanted to see this for myself but she can't drive stick so I called the shop and was like WTH?? The guy handling my claim told me to drive it back asap, they took a look at it and determined that the axle needs to be replaced. I asked why they didn't find this earlier, and he tells me they were in such a rush to get my car back to me that they didn't have time to take it for a drive!!

So my question is, how long do you think it would take a professional with all the right tools to replace an axle assuming they have one in stock? And when I installed my gears I used a different gear oil other than stock, do I need to let them know? And I'm assuming they're going to have to tear the rear end apart and put it back together? If so I'm going to be pissed if they screw it up, I have to drive the thing out of state in a few weeks and I better not hear any gear whine.

Sorry, just had to vent :(

most likely they will put a USED assembly in there. better check into it now, before its too late. if they do install an entire assembly (new or used), it should be done in a few hours. not too bad of a project. now if they get a new rear and then have to install new gears as well, then it may be a couple days total.

I am sooooo sorry.:nonono: At this point make sure you GET a factory part, not some cheap a$$ piece of crap, after all it's your car not the insurance companies. Sure they have to pay for it, BUT so do YOU in the END even if it's not your fault.:hail2:

It depends on the damage. If the axle is bent and the axle housing is OK it's not much to replace the OEM axle. I would not worry about the oil Ford uses, it will be fine but they will need to drain it and remove your rear-end to put the new axle in. If the housing is bent, then the entire rear axle housing will need replaced. Still not a big deal for a good dealer just more parts to order. I highly doubt they have axles in stock so just be patient while they order the parts. Have them do an alignment check too when done.

Have them check your rotor, pads and caliper to make sure you didn't damage them when you drove it.
