Ok my pony has SERIOUS issues. Let me start from the beginning.

1) I have an incredible amount of heat coming from the shifter while im driving. Ive heard that was due to the fact that I was missing the heatsheild from the transmission to the computer. I know im missing it, so im not too worried about this. This happened after I swapped it out from a auto to a 5-speed.

2) My car is making, a rattleing noise from the front of my car near from what I thought was the transmission. I took the car to a shop and they said that my catalytic converter was broken and was bad.

3) For apparently no reason while im driving my car I have sudden spurts where my computer has no horsepower and zero get up and go at all. Its rather annoying. A mechanic said that might be related to problem number 2

4) After I turn my car off, the temputure guage goes up to near max.

5) The rear end of my mustang, I swear has a severe sway, and while im driving im afraid that my car will end up running off the road.

6) Just yesterday while I was driving it, it started making a kinda hissing noise from the middle of the car (around my tranmission) im not sure what it is, but my car started to lag and again have no horse power again. I put the clutch in and the noise went away

any suggestions on how I can fix theses issues? I really like my car, and I just purchased a daily driver so I can park this and work on it, but i need to know where to start, or if it would just be better to get a new pony.

lol thanks

matt

i think thats all of it....

Well it sounds like you have a lot of probs. First I would get a new cat. converter or if you dont have to have emissions just run a pipe in place of the cat, which will save you money but you might pull codes from the computer. The shifter will have heat coming from it, if you dont have the boots on it, shouldnt be extremely hot, and feeling like it would burn you hand. the temp gauge is prolly bad, the temp gauge in these things arent very good anyway, get an autometer temp gauge and fix that for good. The rear end prolly has crap bushings or wore the heck out bushings, that sometimes will make the rear end feel very sloppy. The trans hissing im not too sure of it but, check the fluid levels as it might be low and gettin too hot, might be the clutch slipping also. The sudden spurting is prolly because it needs a tune up, if you have done a tune up on it, check the ignition, im not familiar with the n/a 2.3 ignition, but I would check the ignition and the fuel pressure.

Hope this helps.

ok...

Alright, about the rear end,

I have replaced the bushings, and the rear mounts for everything. But im about to get a new rear end (TC rear) for it, and replace everything once again, so im thinking that will be solved.

The only thing that im really worried about is the hissing noise and the lack of horse power. I know i have an n/a 4 banger, but I know my car and its not fast by any means but it has its moments where it runs great and other moments where it feels like its a struggle to get to 30mph.

any more advice?

a bad cat will cause the engine issues you are describing. fix that and I am sure you will be fine there. as for the tranny, I dont think there is anything around there to hiss. I would check to make sure nothing has come loose and is banging or scraping on it. I had this awful noise that my truck started making the other day. long story short I look under there and a tree branch was hung up and slapping the drive shaft.

if after you do your cat, check your ignition module. it may be a problem, mine went out on my 92, and when it did i could barley make it to 30 it seemed

seems to me like most of your problems are linked to the cat. is the hissing noise an all the time thing or does it come with the car getting hot? it may be the exast getting hot. as for the engine being hot that mostlikely is the cats fault. if the elament is broken it wil ratle and can turn sideways.
this will bock the exast causing a loss of power. it will also back up the exast heat in to the manifold and back in to the motor causing it to over heat. after driving it pop the hood and look at the manifold it will probobly be glowing red. if the cat does not fix the lack of ower you may want to check the TP(throttle positioning) senser.
good luck.

lol...damn cat...

Alright so im thinking the hissing noise is coming from my exhaust area too....just a hunch. I thought it only happened when the car was going with the clutch not pressed, but if I press the clutch and rev the engine up it makes it breifly.

eitherway though, I went out and got a 96 Probe for a daily driver so I can park the poor stang. As soon as I can im going to end up getting an entire new exhaust put on the pony. lol.

any suggestions? i was thinking twin 2 1/5" pipes. any feedback would be great.

alright, for now for a quick fix before i get all the bugs with the probe fixed (minor body damage and a clutch) im gonna take my cats off and ... well hollow em out. today my car started to run like...****...like wouldnt go about 20. the hissing noise (which im certian IS my exhaust) was insane. so yeah im sure my exhaust is clogged or something, my manifold was glowing red too

a glowing intake is a sure sign of a bad cat. I would just replace your whole exhaust system while you are there. would do a world of good for your car.

yeah i realized that....after i posted...lol. eitherway, im building up (slowly but surely!) a 2.3 turbo in my garage...so im not gonna worry about fixing up the 2.3 n/a. but i do need a new exhaust.
