I just got back into this Mustang thing after about 10 years off. I recently purchased a very very clean 89 LX with GT40 upper and lower intake, 24#, MAF, throttle body, 190 pump, ported stock heads, E cam, 3.55's, aluminum drive shaft, long tubes, and a recently rebuilt Paxton SN89. This isn't the combo I would have gone with if I built it from scratch but I couldn't pass it up because the car was straight as an arrow without a spot of rust and the interior is mint. My question is should I change out the cam for an F303 and maybe in the spring upgrade the blower to an S-trim or should I leave the Paxton in it and put a stock cam in and just enjoy it. I'm not sure if the SN blower is even worth keeping or if the F cam with an S trim would be a huge upgrade. I assume I would need heads if I made the upgrade.

Wither way, here are a few pics

You'd definately need to upgrade the heads if you do the cam and blower swap. If it's an SN89, you might could get it upgraded to the current gear drive but the case may not allow it. Ride it until you can go with a newer model if you can't.

Thanks for the kind words, I think I got a good deal considering the condition....$6000 with 87k original miles. Stock ones in that shape were 4500-6500. My plan is to drive it on the street mostly and take it to the track once in a while with some sticky street tires. I don't want to pound the s*** out of it with slicks every weekend. Thats why I was thinking of the stock cam.

the E cam is a pretty good all around cam and it works well with superchargers, i'd keep it in there. if your going to get a new cam i'd go with a custom one when you have the combo you want all sorted out. An s-trim or even a Novi 1000 or 2000 would be money well spent. if i had the money though i'd go with an intercooled procharger

I'm with 90lxcoupe. The E cam is actually a very good power adder cam. As far as the blower is concerned, I would get rid of it. If you're not looking to go crazy a NOVI 1000 is a great little blower that can reliably put out 12psi. You can never go wrong with an S trim but please remember that bigger ain't always better.

The F cam is a good cam but not the ideal choice with a blower. I believe it has too much valve overlap but I do not remember the specs. for sure. There are many good cam choices without having to go a custom cam, although a custom cam will possibly get you slightly better results. The trickflow 2 cam made just over 600rwhp on my car without being custom. As for a blower a novi 2000 and s-trim are very good blowers with some room to grow.

F Cam - 288 int/288ex. 512 lift and 109 LSA. Those numbers suggest a higher powerband and a little loss of low end torque. Actually a decent cam for a centrifugal blower...but on the other hand not such a great cam for stock heads. I would stick with what you have till you can throw some nice heads on there...then a custom cam. If the blower was just rebuilt i would just leave it for now. Nice car man...enjoy
