Anybody ever hear of such a thing??? I got a neighbor who swears by Acetone. Said that he saw a noticeable increase in gas mileage and kitp HP when using about 3ounces per 10gallons of gas. I was a little leary until I watched him pour some in his 06 Challanger R/T. Said that you can buy it at your local hardware store in the paint department. With the price of gas going out of this world, i'm almost willing to try anything that's half way safe... Here is one website below that talks about it. I'm sure there's more.

I sell this stuff at work. Some people use this to get better miledge, Denatured Alcohol for a cleaner, and Toulene for a octane booster. I wouldnt put them in all at once though. But a with all solvents, it will eat rubber, but that littl amount shouldnt do crap to the fuel system.

DO NOT DO THIS! Basically what all is said is true... you will get a higher MPG, more HP, etc... but it's at a cost. Acetone will burn a LOT hotter than regular octane does (which is proportionally the highest ingredient of gasoline). If you use it, you will burn your seals to hell and back, and the acetone can also eat away parts of your fuel system, since it is much more corrosive than typcial gasoline.

I would like to comment on this post because i, myself, am a chemist so i like to think that i know a thing or two about these compounds everyone is throwing out there. Acetone is a very volatile organic solvent (and it dissolves just about everything) with a low flashpoint, low vapor pressure... etc. The only thing i can really think that it would do is perhaps burn fuel hotter and decrease the weight of the fuel which also makes it burn hotter. So i would agree with earlier posts that in the longrun, or the kind of long short-run, it wouldn't be worth it for maybe 1-2 mpg improvement. As for denatured alcohol... it is simply called denatured so that it can be sold without alcohol sales tax meaning that it is not fit for human consumption and is most likely what it added to gasoline fuel. For those of you like me who live in the chicagoland area we have been using 10% ethanol blend gasoline for quite sometime.

Ascetone reduces the fuels surface tension allowing it to atomize better increasing mileage and power... slightly, nothing the seat of the psants dyno will likely pick up on but coupled with other mods will increase mileage noticably.
