ok i think i finally have enough cash for new rims and tires. I'm looking for a 17x8 or 17x9 and either 245 tire all around or 245/275 front/rear. how tall or a tire should i get? 45?40? and what rims do you guys think i should get?

1. newer saleen wheels ( do these come in a 17?)
2. 10th anny wheels
3. 98 cobra wheels
4. y2k cobras
5. Chrome bullitts
6. any other options i forgot that you guys think would look good.

thanks in advance sorry for the long post :SNSign:

what year is your car?

Hey jmd. I have an '02 Saleen with 275/40/18 (9" rim) up front and 295/35/18 (10" rim) rear. For fun, I mounted the rear wheel up front just to see if it would fit, and IT DID! I didn't drive it but turned wheel both extremes and did not rub. I am running Goodyear F1 GS-D3's and LOVE THEM! I have seen several '02's with 315/35/18's (rear) and they worked fine (I was not able to get that size in the F1's)

Personally, like as much rubber on the ground as possible as long as the wheel is not wider than the fender and sticks out. I also like the lowest profile balanced with a good ride. Too low a profile makes ride rough and hence poor handling. Keep in mind, if you plan to upgrade to Cobra brakes or 4 piston calipers, clearance MUST be taken into account or the wheel will not clear braking system.

Peace. The Jazzer

I would use a 235/45 or 245/40/17 up front and 275/40/17 in the rear. Keep your eye out for a set of 3pc Sterns

3pc sterns? I'm drawing a blank and cant picture them you got any pictures? and jazzer the car is an 89[/QUOTE]

I had an '85 GT (believe it or not for over 20 years!) and had a H-E-double hockey sticks of a time finding wheels for it. I had two problems. The biggest one was the offset. It was about 22 mm (approx. 1" positive) and the much more standard offset is about 45 mm (approx. 2" positive). The other was just the 4 bolt pattern itself. I ended up going with 4 lug 17x8 5 spoke O.Z Racing wheels on stock spindles and axels. I was running 245/50/17's and was fine. I am sure you can fit 9" wheels front and probably 10's in back (you will have to flip the dampner shock).

If you have the same brakes I had on my '85 GT (stock and not very good) I HIGHLY recommend and upgrade to new rear 5 lug axels and front 5 lug spindles to accomodate new brakes and the 45 mm offset. I am not sure of the cost, but safe to say would be upwards of $1000 or more. This is probably ALOT more than you want to get into, but would open up a HUGE world of possible rims that would fit, and car would be much quicker to a stop.

Well, that is my 2 cents.

I would stick with 17" wheels and like Bart said, 235/45 up front and 255/40 on the rears. My STERNS are 17x8 front and 17x9 rears. The sidewall fit is perfect with this setup. Below is a picture of my Saleen with the STERNS

Hey Bart, do you think 275/40's would look overkill on the sidewall on the rears with my STERNS??

3pc Sterns are tough to find. It took me 5 years to find a perfect original set. Expect to pay $2,500 plus for a nice set if you can find them.

10th Anniv wheels will be just fine for the money. If you trash one of those you wont feel the need to throw up lol

If i'm reading your sig correctly you have a real foxbody saleen?

Don't ruin it, by putting a non saleen rim on it, worse yet a cobra style rim.

Part of the prestige of owning a saleen is having a real one, something i'm not fortunate to have in a fox.
It will look like a fake with any other rim.

Look long and hard, either use the 18 inch set off of a 94+ or find the speelines, sterns, or even the ARE 5 stars.

The 18's, i know from experience.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but from past experience I dont think the centercap will fit from most 5lug Mustang/Cobra wheels due to the wheel bearing dustcap?

Not that this is a big problem, but it is something to keep in mind.
