What is Need to Change 4.6 to 5.0?

well, without first hand knowledge, i would say the tranny is the same, motor mounts. But you WILL need a new computer harness, exhaust.......

in all honesty, you can expect much more than 300 rwhp out of a stock 5.0 with h/c/i.

no, it really wouldn't matter to me, I'm not like totally into performance or anything. I just like my car to be quick and sound good, that's all I ask for. As for what you'd need, I'd think that it would require the engine (of course), a tranny, wiring harness, computer, motor mounts, and misc. other components...very pricey unless you had a donor car, which would be ideal.

There is so much you'll have to change out:

electronics would be vastly different especially if you stay EFI: (computer, harness, guages etc.)

you will NOT be able to use your old 4.6 tranny (the bellhousing pattern is different)

You may have to redo your whole fuel delivery system as well (can't recall when ford switched to returnless fuel systems- if I remember correctly I think they went returnless in 99 so you maybe able to use your existing plumbing and fuel pump)

honestly unless you had a donor car to pull parts from I'd say keep pluggin on your 4.6.

best bet is to buy a wrecked 5.0 car (either pre 94 or 94/95)

engine/trans/kmember/electronics/driveshaft

ohh also you would either need to go to manual brakes or find a way to make your hydroboost brake system work with the 5.0

Maybe the 4.6 pump would work.

I agree on the donor car. You would be better off just getting one to do the swap.

As much as a pushrod fan I am ..... if I had a modular car, I probably wouldn't do that swap. I'd be looking for a wrecked 03/04 Cobra & swapping that. :D

312HP and 340TQ with 302 TWheads and AFM blower cam (if i have one of those custom cams i could have a lot more)

BUT you can build 4.6 with good port job on PI heads ,some good cams and you will break more than 300HP , but it will cost a lot more than build 302

Agreed, it would be alot of work and money to convert everything. As much as I love working on a pushrod motor, if I were in your shoes I'd be looking for a used DOHC 4.6 from a wrecked Cobra or even a crown vic from a police auction, or a 5.4 from a truck and build on that. If you sell your current 4.6, it shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. Maybe just a few fingers.

Dude, if I was in your shoes, I would just slap that novi blower on there, crank up the boost, get a tune, and hang on! I've always thought that the modular motors love to be blown, and the stock shortblocks are sturdy as hell. It sure would be a hell of a lot cheaper than trying to swap in a SBF.

I would consider selling you my 5.0 short block running in my car. I am thinking of upgrading. It has like ..5k miles on it now and running in the car. It has a high lift cam, ARP rod bolts and flat top pistons...

i would just keep the modular, dont those blocks hold ~1000hp with good internals? cant say that for the poor 5.0........plus as said above both with h/c/i or PI swap they make similar power.

I think it's more in the neighbourhood of 600rwhp...I may be wrong though
