Too much for stock block? MPH/VT heads cams w/ SC?

I've been evaluating and re-evaluating and re-re-evaluating just what direction I intend to take my daily-driving/occasional strip GT in regards to hp. Attempting to balance $$$, dreams, and reality, I think I may have decided on what I want to do. But I think I may have decided on a risky setup.

I believe I have read that 420-450rwhp is the limit for the stock block. And I would like some input (specifically from MPH & VT if you have time) on whether or not this would be an unwise setup for a DD.

2004 GT 5 speed with 20,000 mi

*MPH Vortech Mongoose kit (gotta love an "all you need" kit)
*ported heads (MPH or VT)
*blower cams (either the MPH "custom-grind" ive been hearing about or VT Stg II)
*SLP LT's, catted X and PowerFlo cattback (already have)

Now, will this put me at an unadvisable hp level for the stock block? I would LOVE to drop a forged longblock under the hood, but I'm afraid I will be saving for a while if I need to do that(why did I get married and have kids again? :D just kidding). VT longblocks look great! I dont know much about MPHs offerings.

I planned to run all of the above with a drag suspension and 4.10s. I just want to build a fun, reliable daily driver that can turn in 12 sec passes every other weekend, and sound like a monster:hail2:

Sorry for being long-winded and thanks to all that respond:SNSign:

^Agreed. Tim will throw in 10*s of timing if he has to to keep the car safe LOL. Unless you just insist on big power and he will tell you "well its not my fault if it lets go on the dyno :) " and that usually makes you change your mind LOL.

It basically come down to how you drive it. If you take it easy and it's tuned safe..it will live for some time. However, be prepared for it to let go at some point. It will not last forever...especially if you abuse it or get greedy.

Thank you everyone. I think that pretty much answers my question. I think all those mods on the stock block would be putting my car too close to the line. I will either save up for a forged 4.6, or just forget about the heads and cams. Steeda & HotMustard....I would LOVE to take my car to MPH. VT as well. But they are a bit too far away and not likely to happen. I do have what seems to be a pretty good tuner down here.

So what are my options for forged longblocks or complete engines?

MPH
VT
SHM
DSS

Screw it....maybe ill just do a 4v 5.4 swap with a blower:rlaugh: !

*picks up gun, heading out the door* "honey! I'm going to the bank!"

VT, MPH and MMR all make great shortblocks for sure... you can stay w/ stock displacement or they offer 302 strokers or even big bore setups. Not sure if MPH does BB, but I know VT and MMR do. You really can't go wrong with those 3 companies. If you're buying MPH heads, may as well get the shortblock from them too

from what i hear mph isnt building short blocks anymore!!!!:(

that sucks. anyway vt, mmr, or fox lake are the best options in my opinion. im looking into a strong built block also over the next couple of months.
one of the above is going to get my business. actually for me, its going to be fox or vt.

forget dss and shm....no good.

sounds like a good plan, as long as its safely tuned all should be well. :)

My original plan was actually VERY similar to what you have done. Very nice ride you have there:nice:

Believe me, if there's one thing Texas04silverGT knows, it's women. I know that one day Csledd and I are gonna to get married on top of a mountain, and there's going to be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun rises. And then our children will form a family band. And we will tour the countryside and StangNet won't be invited.

I was wondering why there was very little on MPH's website on short/longblocks...guess that explains it. As for DSS, I think ive read enough to stay away and SHM...the resident serial killers sig is enough:rlaugh:

Where did you hear that?
Tim said it in his forums...to hard to stay competitive in price and still offer the warranty or something...I'm sure they are still building them for customers getting other things just not offering them as a stand alone product anymore.
