I just put a set of Edelbrock RPM heads on my car with a few other mods. I used to run 10's in the 1/8 mile. Now I run an 8.6. But it really falls on its face when I hit third. My 60ft times are 1.8-1.9. It gets off the line great till mid track. I have 3.73 rear's. With the stock SROD tranny. I was trying really hard to blow it up this past weekend but could not do it. I want to switch to a 90-93 5speed. The gear ratio in the 4 speed in third is 1.00. Would going to a 5 speed with like a 1.35 third help this problem. Getting tired of being beat at the end of the track cause 3rd will not pull hard enough. I did the calcutlator for the 1/8 mile and it says my engine is making around 330fwhp with the weight. I dont want to spend 1500.00 for a tranny.

Fourth gear in a T5 is 1:1 ratio. I would say the swap would be worth it but a supercharger install would also be worth it to. I would go with the T5. The extra ratio will help out the times but the launch will be less consistant with the T5 because of the closer gear ratio. But, you do get the gas saving 5th gear to cruise home with.

Not really interested in gas mileage. Cause I drive this car like I stole it. I want to be able to pull hard in the 1/8 mile as this is what we have for a track here, once a month. We convert our airport to an 1/8 mile track. For any of you that are in Washington state come on over on Sept 9th and 10th. Last time out I got 14 passes on Saturday. As far as a supercharger I dont need one. I have plenty of power to blow away those camaro's if I just had a better third gear ratio.

What RPM are you going through the trap at with the SROD? I cant imagine it would be very high. If you're pulling low RPM's in the 1/8 mile in 3rd gear then a T-5 is a good choice or a lower rear axle ratio.

I am guessing but I would imagine that I am not over 3000 rpms when I go over the line. I already have 3:73's in it. Also where is a good shop to buy T-5's from on the west coast.

I would say a T-5 would do wonders. I had a 91 GT with an automatice and the car ALWAYS fell on its face as soon as 3rd came. The car would shift at 4,700. I would do the AOD shuffle and the car would fly because I would shift it into 3rd at 5,900. I would go that route. T-5's are good transmissions and long as you don't miss gears like an idiot. I have had many T-5's, the last one was behind a 400+RWHP car, and it handled everything I threw at it.

just wondering what track in wash state. i live near shelton wash.
The track is FIR located in Forks Wa. Come on over it is a blast. It is 25.00 a day to run. Usually run as much as you want on Saturday. Then we have a cash bash. Then Sunday we run 4 times for dial in then eliminations. Everything from street cars to rail cars this time. But you do not run against the rail cars. They are for exibiton only. Bring your 5.0 over. I need some help beating some of the local guys with there camaro's. Lots of show cars running as well. Eliminations are bracket style racing. So you might run up against a pro car if you are willing.

Im supprised the SROD didn't grenade itself on the first run. I would get a T5z or something.

The SROD is based from the Toploader. I have yet to personally hear of anyone breaking an SROD. I have ran it 4 very hard years and the only problem I had was a 2nd gear synchro jammed up. Most likely due to the fact that the fluid had probably never been changed (and my driving style:))

It has done me well and is great for the highway (for a 4 speed). But the 3rd gear definately is a problem performance wise. I will be upgrading to a Toploader soon for that very reason.

I bought the World class Super Duty T-5 from Jegs. 1st 2.95 2nd-1.94 3rd-1.34 4th-1.00 5th-.63. Wish they had one with a 3.35 first gear. But I have 3.73's so it should be alright. What do you guys think. Should help my times out some more.
