AOD tranny problems after gear install

I just had 3.55 gears put in on Friday and yesterday morning on my way to work I really noticed that the tranny shifts fast between 2nd and 3rd gear. After the the shift to second it shift to third immediately. It also takes awhile for OD to kick in and if you kept on the gas it wouldn't go into OD it was like it was in Neutral. Now today coming home from a friends house it would not go into OD at all and I had to drive home in third. I'm thinking I'm gonna need to replace my tranny sometime soon. What do you guys think or have any of you experienced this before? Thanks.

Yeah I had a shop put them in. There are only two guys who work there and they are pretty honest. They work on some pretty high performance stuff and one is a drag racer so I don't think he would be the type of guy to run my car into the ground. He said he did drive it down the road and OD did slip a little. Sometimes it would shift into OD fine and other times it would just kinda slip. I just can't see why my tranny would all of a sudden act totally different after a simple gear install

It could just be a little more noticable now with the lower gears seeing the RPM's are higher and you're getting more torque to the tranny. What did you switch from? 2.73's or 3.08's?
Same thing I was thinking. If you went with a 373 or 410 especially. The 410 isn't a good gear if you driving around town. The point of these gears is faster shifting and between 1st and 2nd there is hardly no gear at all. Sounds to me like everything is normal if you went with a high end gear.

The AOD shuffle is sure to kill his tranny or any AOD for that matter. It smokes the bands in the transmission. If you want to hold 2nd gear get a Lentech Street Terminator with the OD lock out. Best money you'll ever spend if you like the automatic.

The shift between 1st and 2nd is great. It's the fact that 3rd gear immediately follows 2nd and when i try to go above 40 the car starts revving up and i have to downshift to drive so it will start accelerating again. By 20-25mph my car is in third gear and it is a dog. At 60mph my car is at about 2800 rpms.

I went from 2.73 to 3.73s recently and discovered the faster spinning makes the govorner spin faster and makes the gear changes sooner. The OD slip just sounds like the typical worn out OD band. Do as the others say and get a VB and be pleased. I am working on getting one soon.

I had a 91 GT with an auto with 4.10's. I had the same problem. 1-2 shift at 5,900. 2-3 wouldshift 4,700, then it WOULD NOT shift into 4th unless you let off the gas. That is what happens with those POS's. I hated that transmission with a passion. You need to get a valve body and shift kit, possibly a good tune on a dyno to fix that. A stall converter would also help. I say save up some mone yand put a 5-speed in it:D

+1 on adjusting the TV cable. Do a Google search for AOD TV adjusment, and you'll find several helpful sites. Just remember to mark where your TV cable currently comes through the adjustment block (use white paint, a silver Sharpie, etc). Assuming that it's still in its stock position, you want to make sure you do not ever make it any looser than this. Adjusting the TV cable is a tricky process, but a little tight is better than too loose. That will fry a tranny REAL quick.

jgressley2003, You have just described my exact problem. Only difference is that I installed a Transgo shift kit. Did the shop install a shift kit as well?
My tranny now shifts very nice from 1-2. 2-3 can come quick, depending how hard I have my foot buried. I think I will have the TV adjusted for this.
I also have no OD. For this I called transgo and they said the "A" solenoid was installed wrong. Hope you get it figured out.

I have a different problem, my aod will not down shift from 2nd until about 1000 rpm maybe less. Screws up my vacum for the brakes. No idea what it is played with the cable to no end and it didnt help, and the tranny shifts hard. I can make it shift softer but a hell of alot slower with the cable. The internals are out of an intercepter aod.
