guitar players help me out and speak up

I'm a lefty, and it sucks for guitar selection I'll tell you what.

I've got a fender strat with EMG 81s.
Also have a les paul with some fret rattles, heh. (epiphone)

One thing I did when i started, I always single picked. If I were you I would find a little easy lead riff, and learn to double pick it. It wasn't really hard to switch from single picking to double, but it was weird. Get used to both right away.

learn your powerchords first, they'll give you the most satisfaction, you can make anything sound somewhat cool.

Second thought, then you may become a powerchord junkie...

Well to be honest if you dont feel the drive to play it enough your not really a guitar player at heart. I got my first guitar for my birthday 10 years ago tommorrow and havent put it down since. Its taken me a long way across the country failed record deals all the way to a sweet tour with the Crue and Aerosmith. If you had the heart for it it would take you a long way.

my birthday is the 24th too

I'm a South Paw too :nice:

But I play right handed which is the reason I can't pick anything very well :(

There's a local guy who plays left handed and upside down and he's frickin awesome... that's talent

Haha at least the tableture works out right for him :rlaugh:

I think the points they were trying to make were:

1. there's no difference in tab between left & right handers
2. Hendrix played upside down/left-handed

Well, i've started by learning the different positions on the A minor scale. I know 3 different positions and although it's basic i've gotten pretty fast at moving up and down the neck. I also learned some Barre-Chords and am just now working on power chords. I also find that i play best if my friend is there as we seem to feed of each other. I find it hard to play by myself because i'm very picky with what i listen to so all the songs i really like, and all the songs i can play suck. I'm getting there though. Good luck to ya.

fivespeedsteed, how do you think he played backwards? By taking his arms off? He flipped it upside, ground a new nut (I'm pretty sure he'd have to), and strung it the other way :)

learn 3 basic chords first

Learn any 2 or 3 basic chords such as C,G,F,A,D,E,am,em,dm,bm................and you will be able to play a bunch of songs, that's what keeps me playing. I've been playing for awhile now and i plan to continue playing everyday.
