Looking at a black '03 convertible, hoping to get some opinions. Here are the specs:
This is the non-SC version. The window sticker is on the dash, shows a $47K MSRP, he's asking $23,900.
Black/black top - paint is slightly faded in some places (I'm being extremely picky though.)
Grey leather interior - appears to be in good shape.
Number on bumper is 194
The hood looks like a stock GT hood. Didn't the S281 come w/ a different hood?
Outside of that, it all looks good. I haven't called the guy yet so I don't know the mileage. Anything in particular I should look for / ask about these cars? Thanks.

saleen

if its an 03 it should have the saleen recaro leather seats.
as far as the hood i belive the above statement is right, but i though as far as 03 they all came with the composite hood, ill have to check the saleen book, could the\car possible be an 02?

He lists it as an 03. I do believe the seats are the Riccaro leather. That sounds right about the hood, I found a couple of other pictures of 03's with the stock GT hood. Thanks a lot guys, anything else I should look for?

N/A 03 cars have the stock GT hood & scoop with a Saleen insert. The S/C cars got the composite hood.

For 03-0194, the last 3 of the Ford VIN should be 415. The registry shows optional 13" brakes, speedster package, and black convertible top.

Hey, thanks so much. I actually talked to the guy tonight and verified the info you gave on the options. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. Here's the thing that concerns me...I know the car is only worth what I will pay right? It's an '03 with 36,000 miles. Seems pretty high for a Saleen. Being a vert w/ speedster package is a plus, but wouldn't this mileage justify a lower selling price?

...the fact that Saleen made 345,000 S281's in 99-04 will justify a lower selling price. Of course I'm exaggerating the production numbers but they did make the most saleens to date in that bodystyle. But don't worry, they'll pass that number up by the end of this year with the 05-07 bodystyle mustang.....oops, beginning to ramble off on another tangant.....

His ASKING price is about the current market value. Is it worth more or less then that?? Its really hard to say, but it depends on how quickly and desperate he is to move the car, as to what he might actually take. If I owned that car and wanted to sell it for 24k, I would have had the asking price a few thousand dollars more to ensure I got that 24k. So he may want less then that and it never hurts to offer less. If you want that car and your prepared to pay the asking price and he accepts the lesser offer, consider it an added bonus.

I don't want you to pass on a car you truely really want, but I know there are better deals out there then that. Patience is a virtue. Just ask Todd about that. He got his gold car for way, way, way, way less then that with basically every option an SC car could get, but it took him 3 years of patience, looking and talking with many people before he came across it.....Good luck and let us know how it goes..

Hi Ken,

I have an 04 supercharged and adult modified (lightly, see list below) grey with dark grey leather interior convertible in mint condition with 7,200 miles for $28,800obo. Just an awesome car but I want an M3 now. Original sticker of $55K, better than new. email me for my cell if interested: [email protected]

Sy1172 - sorry man, your vert sounds awesome, but I just picked up the black 03 tonight. Yours sounds a lot cleaner, but I'm such a sucker for a black vert.

So the car has some imperfections, a little oxidation on one part of the hood, the chrome is peeling on one spot on one wheel, it was driven as a daily driver and it shows. But I couldn't be happier. It's been about 2 years since I sold my last stang and I've got the hugest grin from driving that thing around topless tonight. I got it for a little less than he was asking, so I believe I got a good deal. Thanks a lot guys, I'm back.

Hey thanks. Here's the pic of the hood, I'm pretty sure that's oxidation and not clearcoat failure. The only polish I have right now is 3M swirl mark remover for dark paint and Imperial Hand Glaze. Until I move next month and have a garage, I have limited supplies. One of the first purchases I make will be on quality cleaning supplies to include a PC. Thanks again, heres a couple of pics.

Nice! Are those original Saleen wheels are replicas?

Go watch this

They're the original Saleen wheels that came on the car. Upgraded to 18" chrome.
I've heard good stuff about the Adams line. That's a lot for the kit, guess it's worth it though, I'll look into it. Thanks. Do you think the 3M stuff I already have will do anything on the oxidation by hand?

Before you buy anything PM Justin. He'll get you a good deal on similar product and be able to give you tips on what to do to help get rid of that spot (that's why he asked for pics I believe).

Thanks for the referral dotbomb!

Slowstang-I'm a Poorboys World distributor. I can get you good deals on products. Their Super Swirl Removers work awesome with the PC. I have body shops in my area switching from 3M to Poorboys. It's hard to tell by that pic, but you should be able to get the hood looking new again. Check out my website www.obsessivedetail.com It will give you product desriptions and pics. There are a few useful detailing links on there too. Anymore questions feel free to ask.

The Porter Cable polisher makes the kit more expensive. I am sure if you eliminated that part, you could probably deduct $100-$150.

I 2nd to PM Justin to see what he can do for you....
