03 COBRA LOWER PULLEY'S ?

i see on my car that they got a alum. bracket that goes between the bal. and the s/c pulley. is that a bearing in there or something? and is the s/c pulley easy to get off? or do you need a puller? iam thinking of going with a 4lb or 6lb lower pulley. i seen on sites,but it does not have the bracket that goes between the pulleys .? ANYONE GOT INFO ON THIS? PIC'S THANKS :SNSign:

No bearing there. The lower pulley is MUCH MORE difficult to remove than the upper SC pulley. That crank bolt is one major PITA to remove.

I pulled mine....

You have to pull the radiator, fan, alternator....

then the obstructing bolts, I can't remember entirely, but I think there are 3.

Then you have to get a break over. I have heard 3 popular ways( impact, breakover w/ another pipe over it for leverage, and breakover with a hammer), I tried them all, but this one worked best for me:

Put the breakover at about 45* and hit it repeatedly with a sledge to pop it....I couldn't get the impact to hit hard enough because the compression would give just enough...

Remember that the threads on the pulley are reverse threads.

There are bearings inside the actual pulley, but nothing to pull.....so you won't need a puller unless you decode to pull the balancer on the 1st crank pulley.

man im pissed ,,heres the problem. i know the bolt goes clockwise to break loose,, i got a chain strap around the lower pulley,i got a real good 14mm allen socket on 3 ft pull bar with pipe in it.got breaker bar so i can jack up on the pipe using floorjack ,jacked it up as high as it will go, even heated it a little with small propane torch,,air hammered behind the pulley where the pipe screws are and still dont break loose ..my lower pulley is fed now.wtf. if i heat the bal any more the rubber ring will melt.and so will the crank seal ..i just dont want the allen the strip out...what next?:shrug: :nonono:
 
eh.

Man....like meat said....it's a bitch, but I didn't have that much trouble.

I am not too bright in this area, but doesn't heating it expand the threads? If so that may be your problem.

Do you have a 1/2 drive allen socket for a breakover? I tried the impact but it didn't work.

Also....I tried going from underneath but couldn't get enough leverage, so I had to take out the radiator and fan to go from up top so I could whale on it. That is about all I can say.

Simple procedure, but a real pain in the ass.

Also....don't worry about the allen stripping out....I believe the stock set up is hardened steel.
