I'm looking into either getting a world man 'o war, dart 302, r302, or the new boss 302 block for my 5.0. Does anyone know which of these blocks are machined to accept a roller setup without having to go with a shorter lobe center cam? I want to stick with a 8.2" deck heigth block and I'm compilating a parts list to assemble a bulletproof shortblock, but I'm having a hard time finding out what final machining is req'd for these block and which ones are roller friendly. Any help would be huge.

Whats the intended purpose of the block? The Dart comes ready for hydraulic roller cams. The Boss is in final casting stages so I dont have all the info yet. The R302 is a siamese bore block that *may* cause a cooling problem on the street, will find out about the roller cam for you. Have yet to use the man o war. Im assuming its for a street car.

I want a bulletproof 331 stroker shortblock reliably running roughly 600-650hp and sometimes more. Maybe 5k to 7k miles a year, occasional trips, several drag events, and two road race events each year. Probably solid roller, I got the idea from you in another post Sbftech, but I might stick with my current hyd. roller setup. I have the top end and blower now it's time for the bottom end. I don't mind overbuilding it for the peace of mind alone. I plan on spending about $4000-$4500 for the shortblock, I've been told that Coast High Performance is a good outfit who'll build any setup you want. I may give them a call. I have most of my mods listed in my garage.

All of the blocks you listed take a standard 302/351 cam base circle, you only get into the small base circle stuff when you try to use a stock roller lifter in a 351W block.

The BOSS 302 still has not been released, if you want to stay HYD roller the DART Sportsman is what you want, the Iron Eagle and Man-O-War would require machining or a linked bar lifter ($470) or you could go soild roller. I find the DART and WORLD blocks to be of a better dresign then the R302, they also cost a little less to machine.

Let me know if I can help link is in my sig ;)

I got ahold of ford and they say the boss302 block will be available in two weeks, or roughly the 22nd of sept. I'm going to get ahold of another rep. and find out if it is roller ready and what machining it req's. I've always been a fan of the boss blocks but if the dart is a cheaper option it may be the way to go. Jeg's says they will sell the boss302 for $1799,95, which is the same price I can purchase a dart block for. Is that your company featured in your sig Rick 91GT? If you can build me a setup (331) let me know, we should talk business. thanks.
