Does anyone know how to remove the center console on like an 03 mustang? I hav a Haynes and the instructions are crap. I have all the fasteners loose, but I do not seem to be able to manuver the console around the handbrake. Any help is appreciated.

push in the button on the handbrake and pull it up as far as u can. it has to be like completely strait up or as strait as you can get it. also you need to open your console *where you put stuff in* there should be two screws on the top of it, undo those and pull out the black piece *the thing you put stuff in* and under that there are two more bolts you have to undo then you can lift the back of the console out. i just did this over the weekend in my 96 and they should be the exact same. since we are on the topic does anyone know a good website that has all interior parts i can buy? OEM and aftermarket? i want to work on my interior but i cant find a site with that many interior products.....ebay even doesnt have much.

yeah but my auto has a b&m ratchet shifter so i had to make it work myself. but yeah its not hard at all. i had to rewire my headunit and i clean out all the trash the guy had dropped under the console *dont ask how but he did it* and i saw all these wires that were uncapped and just laying around, some not even hooked up just layin there. noone answered about the best place to find like any interior part for my 96 gt!!!! i need that bad!!!!

so ur sayin that everything is unfastened...u just have a problem getting it physically out of the car?

Yup, I got everything unfastened. The bolts to the center dash, the screws from under the console, even the outlet is disconnected. I pull the hand break up as fas as I can (and I am pretty strong), but that is not straight up and down. I cannot get the console out. De I need to disconnect the hand brake some where? should I have to disconnect the parking break to get this thing out?

Problem, my hand brake does not come com straight up. If it did, then I would not be having this problem. all the screws are out.

Not sure about interior though. I had to get a new read head pad for my car and I ordered it from Ford. They tried to give me a flimsy piece of crap for like $350. I told them that it was not the part that came off my part. They said there was a redesign. I ended up getting my money back and going to a junk salvage yards to find it. Got it for $40.

Don't forget to undo the shift knob for 5spds or put the shift handle on autos all the way back into Low. Also, unplug the cig. lighter as well.

I am way past unscrewing the shifter knob. And yes the lighter is unplugged. But don't seem to be able to manuver the console out with the handbrake in the way and it will only come up so far. It will not come straight up.

I removed the center console a few months ago to clean in and around there cause the previous owner was a damn pig. Anyway, i had everything unbolted and all the connections disconnected and i attempted to take it out of the car. In the process i threw the e-brake up as far as i could and snapped the damn cable, i do not recommend doing this. Just unbolt the e-brake mount screws and move it around so that you can take it out. Then when you put it back in just do it in reverse and bolt the mount screws back in before you secure the console. Big pain in the a$$.

I thought about that, but am not familiar with the tension mechanism. My vision of springs flying every where concerns me. However, based on what you have said I think it is probably the only thing I can do. Either that or jack it up and take the wheels off and disconnect the ebrake, which would be even more trouble.

Thanks... will let you guys know.

yeah, well the only reason i can get my ebrake up as high as i can is cuz it kinda doesnt fully work. like i can roll at 35 and pull it up as hard as i can and it doesnt lock up or anything, you feel a slight drag of the car slowly down SLIGHTLY. i think that maybe why i can get mine just a bit higher. i suggest just unmounting it and doing it that way, its a little longer but might save your ebrake. any suggestions on how to fix my problem? is it the pads on the brake or what? maybe cable is stretched

Oya the springs. In all honesty i forgot how i did all that, I remember it was kinda tricky.

it is and it takes a nice amount of time to do everything ie undo everything and figure out how it works *takes the time it takes to take it apart* then to clean it and then reassemble. its worth it though, you might find interesting stuff like i did
