IS MY MECHANIC ROBBING ME?

yeah i had thought about just going at night and getting my car, thets the bad part,he said hes in the process of tuning, and putting in the new headlights,so i still have no car yet,i didnt sign any release forms or invoices so i think its possible to argue that fact, but its more time and trouble than its worth i guess, like i said before i have a few other mustangs and he wont see another dime of my money, not that it helps getting broke off in me,but there again lesson learned, and a damn expensive one at that

I'm sorry you had to learn your lesson that way. I know that it doesn't feel good getting it broke off in ya like that, especially with no lube. I try to make it a habit of getting a quote before i take my car to the shop, thats if i take my car to the shop, (only done twice) and usually the price ends up being a couple dollars short of the estimate. Also after i got my stuff installed, he went through and showed me my old part, and the new part that he replaced.

All this knowledge you gained just another thing to put in your tool box for later use.

not sure yet,he still has the car, that was just the invoice i had him print,he said it would be done in a few days when i called,so i asked my bill total, after he told me,and i caught my breath i said i needed a copy of the entire bill, and i went straight there and got it so i could post it here,he really is known to do good work, however for the money it damn well out to be good work..its a nice car i paid 7000 for the car when i bought it,then i did away with the cats and ran 3" inch pipe off the x pipe with flos, and no cats,so with the shortie headers it out to sound pretty good,it had a 75mm throttle body and mass air when i bought it,its a solid car,and its a damn good thing, cause its looking like im gonna have to keep it a long time, theres no way to sell it and get any decent money back,im thinking of adding a supercharger, andbody have any advice for a mechanic in or around atlanta ga? and what does a typical vortech parts and labor cost? thanks

heres a few pics when i bought it

A rule of thumb on parts that you install, is you generally can get back about 30 to 40 cents back on every dollar you spent when you go to sell it. Labor is a complete loss obviously - you won't get any of that back. This is why everyone pretty much has to do it themseleves, otherwise you get hosed. I might try pleading to this guys sense of fairness - show him that for around 9k you could have bought a whole car nicely finished - here's one near me for under 11k - Ed Curtis cam, full suspension, 5 lug conversion with 03 SVT cobra wheels and brakes etc - he might take 10K??

Not trying to make you feel bad - I feel your pain as someone once said, but I would see if you can't get him to knock something off the bill - I dunno if it will work or not, but hey, he can only ask you to bend over so far.

Man this is outrageous!!! $9200 for.. . I can understand a mark up on parts you requested, and didn't supply. He has to take time out, either via himself or employee, to retrieve items, and that is just like any other automotive shop. They mark it up about 10%....

But before you make payment and take delivery, you need to have a list of what you wanted done,, and list of stuff he took upon his own self to do. And with all the stuff he did on his own, request it to be removed, since you didn't ask for it. Why pay for something(parts & labor) you didn't need or ask for. That's where is killing you. Replacing parts that weren't necessary, and marking them up. Why would he replace the water neck, unless yours was broke? Plus $104 for a water neck is CRAZY:eek: !!! And what was so special about the ARP head bolts to make them cost $161?? Also request all the old parts back... That way you can see fit certain items needed replacing..(if you get you original stuff back that is)

Man I feel for ya and would consider legal advice before signing anything and before taking delivery of the car.. That is just way too much, and for stuff that didn't need replacing too..

the chin spoiler was on the car when i bought it,i thought it looked pretty cool, not sure how the guy put it on though, and to the other people replying on the prison style ass raping im getting from my mechanic i do appreciate all the feedback,it at least is helping me get some sort of gameplan, and also letting me know i wasnt crazy for thinking i was getting about 20 feet of ground round in the backdoor...lol....i did say i wanted a 3 row radiator, cobra intake, heads, headers, cam, roller rockers, and i had priced all that for the most part, but then theres a 5 page list of shiot, not really sure what the hell he was thinking, how would a mechanic take it that far,and does anyone think he thought i would be ok with that repair amount? it just seems odd that he hadnt planned on me saying wtf? and getting a lawyer, and thats my next step i think

Is it just a mach1 chin spoiler? Is there anyway to see how its put on there? Is it just kinda bent into the shape of the car? If the mach1 chin spoiler will fit on our cars with alittle messing around with it, im buying one.

Take a close look at my avatar. It's a four eye, but I think it may work the same.
