Difference Between Fox Block and SN95 Block?

  • Sponsors (?)

The blocks are the same as the eariler 5.0's. The one thing different was that some of the 87-91(?) engines had forged pistons.

Well the entire rotating assembly is going in the trash unless anyone wants it.

Im going 331. Just wanted to know if there was anything different in the block it self.

I just bought the complete engine cuz it was cheap $300 for a 30K mile engine.

cylinder walls still have a nice crosshatch and everything.

So are you saying my 93 has those ****ty ass pistons? peace

john:p
Yep.

The old generality was that forged-piston engines had grey oil pans and hypereutectic-piston blocks had black oil pans.

so if i paint my oil pan grey, my pistons become forged?
Nope, if you scrape the black paint off your oil pan (revealing the OEM grey that should have come on an '89 motor), you're set. :p

I've come to accept the same thing as Pacecar states. In any event, it's the safe statement to make (erroring on the side of caution with regard to thinking one has forged slugs and ends up not having them).

Car makers generally dont have things together enough to precisely run-out of a product right at the model year change, ergo mid-year changes.

If there are any in 92s I would say it came at the extreme end of the production run before ramping up for 93s as 92 was the least produced GT of the 87-93 cars, I would tend to think they had extra Parts moreso than running out of stuff early.

OT .....

Anyone know about the Explorer/Mountaineer, F-150, and other car engine's? I have a '97 Mountaineer in the garage that I'm pretty sure has hyperuetetic's. I also have an early to mid '90's F-150 out there. It has a gray oil pan (but different than our pans, of course). What would the F-150 engine have in it?
