Whats the difference between solid and hydrolic lifters. Are roller lifters the same as hydualic. I going for a big setup. Have a procharger already and plan on picking up the boss302 block from ford. What is the better style lifter to go with.

This is a fairly common questions and the best way to get an answer is to search through the threads that have been posted in the past. There is a lot of information to be found here if you know where to look. The search function works vey well and you will find lots of info with it.

Good Luck

Okay, you are getting a couple of things confused here. First off, there are hydraulic and solid lifters. Hydraulic lifters use oil while solids are just solid. Then you have roller or flat tappet lifters. These have to do with what type of cam and block you have. Mustang 5.0 are commonly referred to as roller blocks because they use a roller tappet style cam and lifters. Roller and flat tappet lifters can be either hydraulic or solid, it depends on the application.

Hydraulic lifters 'pump up' and maintain their correct valve lash so to speak. Should not be used with high valve spring pressures necessary for high lift, high rpm motors.

Solid lifters require the valve lash to be adjusted every so often. Not sure of maintenance intervals. Maybe someone else can chime in. Can handle high valve spring pressures.

Roller lifters can handle steeper cam lobe curves to open the valve at a quicker rate, but I believe are somewhat limited on rpms due to the additional components and weight of the roller assembly.

Flat tappet lifters ride/slide directly against the cam lobes. Slower ramp rates but better for high rpm use.
