A question for drag racers

Lately I've been working on my driver mod, and then something dawned on me.

When I am making a run at the track, my tires break loose on the 1-2 shift and the rear end goes a wee bit sideways. Before I thought this was cool, but now I've been think it might be costing me some time due to the loss of traction.

Should I make the 1-2 shift at a little lower than normal, say 5000 or 5500 rpm so I don't break loose when I shift? Is the loss of traction on my 1-2 shift really hurting me all that much?

Does anyone else shift below 6K on the 1-2 shift?

Also I know that some kind of DR or ET street will help me out, but unless someone wants to buy me some DRs :D I won't be getting them for awhile.

Yeah this track blows.... It is just an abandoned airfield where they set up a tree and track sensors once a month. I don't know if there is any prep whatsoever.

I'm not pushing any insane amount off power, I just have some of the basic bolt ons.

i can spin the 1-2 shift better if i dont run it to redline. if i shift around 5200, then i can get a much better 2nd gears scratch. same with 3rd gear. redline 2nd, and no scratch in 3rd, but baby it a little and CHIRP.

I have found that if I meter the throttle a bit more on the one, two shift I just get a slight squeek almost no matter the track condition. You can run first to redline just don't completely mash the throttle from 1 to 2.

I've shifted at all kinds of shift point low mid & high and everything in the middle looking for the best shift points - i even data logged over 70 runs so I know exactly what I'm doing aftwards & make adjustments form there. I found the higher the shift the better 6250 - 6500 all depending on track conditions. I am using M/T Dr's and I did break the 5 speed 3rd gear sycro's:bang: I replaced the 5 speed with the D&D 6 speed so no more broken sycro's for me:nice: I'm racing in the true street class @ FFW in Ennis tomorrow!
