well, i was thing of going with a full efi setup. decieded to go with a straight up carb setup, on my 408. my question is, can i still use my stock gauge cluster when doing this? or do i have to go with an aftermarket setup? tranny will be a tko 600, Afr 205 heads, holley 750 or 850 DP 4bbl, victor jr. intake. Thanks in advance.:nice:

As long as you LEAVE YOUR COMPUTER connected (along with the tranny harness), you can use your speedometer, voltgauge and gas-gauge (assuming you keep stock tank, just modify it for carbed lines)

As far as tach, you can either use an aftermarket Tach, or rip through your harness and find the tach wire, or run a new tach wire from your computer. I can't help you with that, since I run an MSD setup with an aftermarket tach/shiftlight.

I recently did the conversion, and I'm very happy. I'm running a mild 347, w/trickflows, Weiand ported/polished intake, Demon 650, Barry Grant 280GPH pump and an Aeromotive regulator. Real good combo.

OT, but wow that really cleans up the engine bay!

Just curious, does it fit under a stock hood?

Yeah, that was just one additional thing I loved about the carbureted setup.. You lose 90% of the wiring rats-nest in the enginebay. All that's left is the harness for the headlamps, and fuse box. (Of course I still had to run the battery cable, starter cable, ground, gauge sensor wires etc, but they're barely visible)

As far as fitting under a stock hood, I'll just say no. If you're very lucky, and go with a super short intake, and a really flat air cleaner, possibly.. But in most cases (on a 94/95 style) you'll need a 1-2" cowl to clear it.

Jinx:
I've had some issues as far as charging and cooling, but as far as the actual engine, she runs like a scalded hog. :D Can't keep her off the rev limiter on street tires... a real beast. Currently planning to dynotune her in 2-3 weeks, depends on my tuner availibility. I'll post up numbers and pix after that. I'm REALLY happy so far though.

can anyone recommend a cam that is very streetable for this setup? how about gears? Mostly street time with strip time at a minimum. not a daily driver. maybe 3-4K a year.

Mild cam, you'd probably be fine with an alphabet cam.. But the best bang for the engine would be to have a custom cam ground. I don't think it's too much more expensive..
