Hi,

I own a 94 GT Mustang stock
It has 49,000 miles on it, and this is my first Ford.
The car runs very well, but I notice a vibration between 40 and 55 miles.
Also I hear a scratching noise in the drive shaft when I hit the gas and the car lower the back of it also when I have someone sitting in the back, like something is actually scratching the shaft when I looked under the car I see that the emergency brake cable connection is actually making a scratch in the drive shaft. The car has new stock shocks and springs in front and back, the engine support and the trans support are new also, is there suppose to be some king of bushing that prevents the drive shaft from touching the car floor well in this case the emergency brake cable connection. If so I can’t find it. I think that I may have to replace the drive shaft also since the scratch looks kind of damaging. But first I need to know what’s causing the problem.

Thanks anyone

the parking brake assembly is your culprit it tends to sang down and hit the driveshaft it gets worse if the car is lower .Is your car lower? To fix the problem take off the drive shaft and give the bracket for the parking brake a couple of wacks until you get more clearance just be careful not to hit the cables and you should get the driveshaft checked and balanced .

Are you certain that it is not lowered? (it sounds as if this car is new to you) This is a common problem when the car is lowered, and it also is common with the FRPP aluminum driveshaft which has a larger diameter. IIRC, upper control arm bushings are also a suspect, when they wear out, they allow the pinion angle to change and that puts the driveshaft higher.

I took off my driveshaft and ground the ebrake bracket as much as possible to gain clearance. With my lowered 94, new control arm bushings, an aluminum driveshaft, and the ground bracket, it never hit. But then again, I never did have 4 people in the car...

Have the same problem with my lowered 94 stang and the FRPP alum. driveshaft. Has a big groove in the middle of it now that looks to be damaging but it's not vibrating yet. You could probably drop some cash on an adjustable pinion snubber but I dunno if that will really fix the problem (I didn't try it yet). I'd try grinding down the bracket like mentioned and maybe look into new bushings. Thats what I'm going to do at least. Oh, and I thought that driveshafts can't be balanced? I remember hearing about that in another thread. It would seem like they can't be at least. In my case, i'll probably get another one since the gouge is so deep in the center.

There was a pretty decent thread on the Corral about this, and the guy posted pics of how he ground/modified the ebrake bracket. Might be worth a looksie if you decide to mod away. The only kicker is that I cant remember if it was for a fox or SN (both have the issue when lowered or fat folks are in the car, and I read both sub-forums).

Your smart to evaluate the DS - their wall thickness isnt great.

Good luck.
