Gt Automatic times

Iam trying to get some times (0-60 & 1/4) for an 05 Gt with axleback, cai and Bamaspeed 93 octane tune.
Motortrend says they ran 5.1 to 60 in a new automatic Gt.If that is true then with these mods Iam guessing 4.8-4.9 0-60 and about 13.3 in the 1/4.
You guys chime in here and tell me what you think!!!!

I think it's all theoretical. The GT ran 13.8 in the quarter. when I had my LS1 Z28, I made a load of modifications and gained 8/100ths of a second over the quarter. Traction is always an issue and believe me, even a tenth of a second is hard to get. From the mods you've made, you probably won't see a huige difference but the car will be more responsive and faster through the rev range.

What will your car do in the quarter? Take it to a drag strip as it's the only way to find out. Even individual cars are different.

I'm not a racer, but there are a few places outside of my town where there are traffic lights on a divided highway with a 55 limit. So, I figure I'm pretty much with the law if I accelerate to 60. I've timed that in my '05, first in stock condition it was a pretty consistent 5.3 s on my Mickey Mouse watch. Just giving it the gas, no extreme measures, even with TCS on.

After install of an aFe CAI and an 87 octane tune from Paul's High Performance in an SCT, I tried it the other day and it was just a hair under 5.1 (no extreme measures, just giving it the gas). So, I would say 2 tenths are possible, maybe a little more with a 93 octane tune. But, my times are not official and they are for my car under whatever weather conditions I had.

There is a guy on here with about that running a 13.26 with an automatic. Whether or not it is typical I don't have fist hand experience, but I would say from watching his video it is definitely possible to run a 13.3 with those mods and a good launch.

Hope you folks don't mind me chiming in here, but I found an '05 GT-A that I'm rather interested in but I'd really like to know if it's worth looking for a manual or not. I don't plan on autocrossing this thing, maybe an occasional trip down the strip and overall cruising, but I want to be sure I'll always enjoy it.

What made you choose the auto over the manual?

As for me, I'll be coming out of a turbocharged Miata, so I've had plenty of time with an oversized, force-fed go kart....

Five speeds are fun, but an auto is so nice in traffic. And, the Mustang auto is derived from the Lincoln LS, a good tranny. I was brought up on manual transmissions, but most of what I want to do, I can do with the auto. When the streets are slippery, I can start in 2. When I need some engine braking, I can pop the OD button, or drop it into 3. Not going to hurt this trans. You don't give up much in terms of acceleration, and you'll never miss a shift.

I'd give you my times but the density altitude (and physical altitude here) is so wack that they wouldn't be overly representitive of a usable number for you. I plan to get a portable weather station to get accurage DA readings so I can convert to usable numbers next year. I can say that just adding a C&L and the 91 Octane tune provided by Diablo was worth 2.5 tenths and 3MPH in the quarter over stock.

Hey Osiris, we actually had the same situation. I came out of an 04 Mazdaspeed Miata and into an '06 gt mustang auto. As for me the choice was simple for an auto : it was the last day for 0 for 72 at the time and this was the last left over 06 they had. So I took it. As a former MSM driver, I can point out some things. As far as auto vs. manual - the auto gt is more fun than the 6-sp MSM. The auto shifts well and with apropriate timing and the significant increase in torque made up for the loss of changing gears. While I did get accustomed to the forced induction of the MSM and enjoyed the boost at 4 grand, the GT tends to have a relatively flat power band (or atleast it feels that way) and pulls as hard as Miata. The major difference I noticed however between the two cars is the point of takeoff (that is the point when it feels like the d@mn thing is approaching liftoff). The MSM feels that way around 100 - 110 and deffinitely by 120 (running out of gear at about 127). The GT is a casual drive at 100 and doesn't even begin to bother me until around 130-140 (of course by 140 I'm gripping the steering wheel pretty tight). Another plus : the GT is much more comfortable but the steering wheel-shifter distance is going to feel right (even in the automatic) as they're very similar. The seats are more supportive in the GT as well. Also, one thing that suprised me is that the GT corners rather flatly to be as bulky as it is (compared to the MSM). But I count it up to the added weight - having taken my MSM backwards at 90 in a turn because of over correcting - a little extra weight is apreciated. Bottom line : it feels more under control at high speeds. Anyway, I know this is alot more than what you were looking for, but I figured being a previous MSM owner, I would write all this to tell you HELL YES BUY THE MUSTANG. Even as an automatic I like it better. And you'll feel at home, the mustang has as much heat coming off the firewall as your MSM has coming off the tranny tunnel (if you feel between the seats you know what I mean). Anyway, good luck.
