I need to shut a few people up, I need the fastest time slip that can be done with a knocking / oil burning engine...

The only mods I have installed (new engine coming for next spring) are: centerforce clutch, O/R X-pipe, dumps (no tailpipes), shorty headers, underdrive pullies, no smog, electric fan, and I think that's it? Oh and the interior is completely gutted minus the dash (due to rust repairs). This is a basic 89 LX with no powerseats, no power windows, no AC etc... from factory. Oh and I won't have time to change my gears, It has the stock 2:73's but I have some 3:55's waiting to be installed but I don't have the time :(

I'm going to do the following:

- remove front sway bar
- bump timing (12-14) to whatever doesn't ping with 94
- short belt to bypass power steering
- rear street tires at 15psi
- Battery in trunk
- Air/oil seperator for the PCV <-
- I have some roller 1.6 rockers I can install too, would that help a little? I need every little 1/2HP I can get!
- ???

I need to do some cheap and quick things to get the best time out of this car... before I put it away for winter. I have a nice engine being built which should get me in the 12's but that's not the case right now with the current tired and stock engine...

Do the rockers, they will help...

Dont drop the street tires down, do what works. It takes a few runs to find out but dont just stick to a number and think its going to work.

Timing can be touchy. My car liked 18 degrees on 89 octane yet some cars work well with much less timing. Best bet would be a dyno, but you can do this at the track. An AFPR would be nice to, too play with things at the track.

Sounds like you have it covered, but might take more than one or two trips to get the best out of it.

Also to note my bolt on car went 13.0 @ 103 with bad rings using a quart of oil every 100 miles, and knocking pretty bad. They usually run really hard right before they go. "Loose is fast"!

I would make the time to install those gears, it can be done in 4-5 hours if you have access to the tools. My Ford gears were easier to install then I thought they would be and I had never done a gear install before. There
are some excellent gear install right ups on the net, they are your friend:D

Thanks guys... and There's a "FART BUTTON" ad... right next to the quick reply wtf lol

Oh and I did a redneck short throw, I just cut the shifter to make it more comfy for me now I can shift faster, when I take off in 2nd and go right to 4th in town it sounds just like an automatic lol

you havent covered everything.............i think it was in car craft mag someone might know what im talking about, they took a i think 89 mustang bone stock all the way to the silencer, put 2 turbo coupe turbos on and it ran i think high 10 or low 11 at the track. my buddy told me about this i havent seen this article. but the gut couldnt rev past 4k cauce of sparh knock

Never seen that article, but BONE STOCK with just twin turbo coupe turbos and not revving over 4000 RPM...

that will NOT go 10s, sorry no way around it. Now with other mods, and things they arent telling you (like being able to rev it) it could, but with all those things working against it, it is NOT that easy running 10s!

thats what i said when when he told it to me but i dunno, i know it takes a lot for 10sec but he could always put a turbo on it to go faster..........i told him to sho me the article but he couldnt.....so i think its bs

Yeah, take magazine articles with a grain of salt. There are lots of info Im sure they leave out because if they told you everything you would probably be scared away from doing it. Turbos are great power adders, dont take parasitic loss from the motor like a blower, but arent some magical thing that will take a mid 14 second car and drop it into the 10s without other things done.

I know a lot of race cars and fast street cars and know what it takes to run 10s. A JY turbo set up would be a good route, but your going to need the supporting mods, fuel system, driveline stuff, traction, gearing etc...
