Car cools great when driving 45 + MPH but as soon as I slow down in traffic my temp climbs. Once I get going the temp drops about 20 degrees within about 30 seconds leading me to believe that I need a water pump. I just bought a fluidyne radiator, black magic fan and 172 degree thermostat.

I running 6 lbs of boost through a Powerdyne, shorty headers in Arizona heat. What's the concensus?

I'd look real hard at that fan. I'm in So. AZ and wouldnt run an aftermarket fan (except maybe dual Spals) period.

If you can shoehorn it, I'd try a Viper fan myself. They have awesome flow and also fit in fairly tight confines.

You could try a quick and dirty little test if your car has a front grill and you have a really strong box fan. Let the car idle with the box fan in front of it and see if it stays cooler than it was with just your dedicated cooling fan.

Just MHO.

Good luck.

I run a 3.8L tauras fan. It has a shroud built in and takes up most of the radiator. Cools mint......

I'd suspect the fan.... unless you have underdrive pulleys which I dont think you can since you have a blower

Dude-

Toss the Black tragic fan, thats my opinion and get yourself a a MKVIII fan and be doen with it, chnage your WP while your @ it-Say goodbye to running hot issues forever.
Just my .02 cents

Viper fan is awesome. Does take some work to fab up the mounts because the fan comes out farther than the housing so you need like 1/4 inch between the radiator and fan. It could be both too because the black magic is really rated for a stock motor without much room to grow. I was runnin a Milidon AL high volume water pump(absolute junk) which just couldn't flow at idle which is where you need it. Consider switching to a Stewarts if you change water pumps too.
