Interest in a simpler KarKraft functional hood scoop?

Yeah I believe that's the same link as the original post. Now, take out that airbox, the hosing and vacumme system, and basically we are left an air channel to the stock airbox. I would imagine taking out all the complicated pieces would reduce the price.

Who would be interested!! Come on we have a chance here :D

Knowing what it includes now and knowing the fact that most buyers will have an 01+ hood scoop:
1. piping, not CF
2. a box
3. no K&N filter

just have it ram air all the time into the box, I don't think the panel filter is necessary either

it should come out mid 100s and then about 40 shipping i would presume.

Even if it wasn't that great in functionnallity,i would buy it just because it would look good under the hood rather then that under hood inscolator  ,and the fact it looks more functional then the factory way...you know the honeycomb thingy :nonono: . :)

yeah I agree I hate the hony comb crap. I did the grill delete fro this reason. if it were a solid kit I would buy it just to delete that part.

looks useless

air will not come in through the scoop, make a 90* bend, then make another 90* bend, and then go from a 12x2 rectangular path to a small 4"x4" square over the filter. it just doesnt work that way.

maybe if it was a huge ass scoop, that air came through the scoop, and straight down into a filter, it would have a slight ram air effect, but even at high speeds, its not going to give you much more than cold air that can be achieved via a CAI.

theres more i could get into like hydrodynamics and flow and **** like that, but ill keep it short and sweet. its useless. get a cai.

I don't think anyone is discounting the fact that it would most likely be a useless mod in the sense of gaining actual power. I think it's mostly for the sake that people want a hood scoop that functions, whether or not it functions well. Personally, I loathe my hood scoop and would gladly look for alternatives. I know there is nothing substantial to gain besides some extra wind drag and the water here and there but, some how, I think I'd feel better about the scoop. :flag:

I think the biggest factors involved with this kit, besides it's materials and cost, is the safety factors as well. Think about it, do you really think, our tacked on hood scoops were designed to withstand the drag if it actually capturing air for an extended period of time, let alone at high speeds. And to top it off, it doesn't appear to have any accomodations for water. Work something into those factors that can help elminate those problems, and then they would most likely get a sale out of me.

The link in the OP was to the "New Product" announcement page. My link was to the installation instructions. I just thought it might add more info for those looking to work off the design.

Is anybody concerned if the factory scoop is strong enough? There have been people reporting that after they removed the fake grill from the scoop, the scoop itself has broken off at high speeds.

I guess they took the fake grill off to make the scoop look more real, but the scoop isn't strong enough to handle 100+ MPH winds blowing into it.

I am not sure if this is a real problem, or a problem only with the first scoops which had fewer bolts. I just thought I would bring it up for possible consideration.

i am currently debateing between this mod and the mach intake. my understanding is that due to the aerodynamics of the car this mod would function almost wholey as a cai with little or no 'ram air' benefit and likely no real hp or tq gains, which is fine by me. it just irks the beejezuz out of me that the scoop is 100% nonfunctional as it is. water evacuation is something that i would handle just as it is handled in the mach intakes. i just need to decide whether or not i want to cut a hole in my hood.

someone mentioned that the last time i brought up this topic. my thoughts are 1) i am not likely to do 100+ very often and 2) i would watch it like a hawk for the first couple of weeks and weather changes for signs of stress. i figure i can always plug it back up if it comes to it.

I would still get it.Some functionality is better then the stock non fuctional way, besides,i would get it just for the looks aswell, would look good at the local car shows, and cruise nights.I personally like my stock hood, with scoop, each to their own though. As for the cold air :rlaugh: ,just as useless, been there done that, know it's in the garbage, but again, this is my opinion :nice:.

I've been driving around for 2 summers now,and had no issues, but i drilled out every hole in the scoop's honeycomb grille, this way it is still held on to the hood at the front of the scoop. :D It also somewhat helps with the water B.S after washing the stang. :)

I wonder why they, or someone else, isn't considering making a newer kit. I know I emailed them once or twice over the past few years asking as well and got the same response. It seems like there are still a lot of people who would be interested in something like this if the price were right.

On a related topic, is there any reason why our plenum has to pull air in from the side and air can't come straight in. We would probably have to have some setup for a filter and the MAF, and of course a new plenum that points foward. I've seen other aftermarket kits, and I think the new Mustang is one, that have the air coming straight into it from the front of the hood. Why couldn't something like that be figured out through our stock scoop and push that down into our intake. A side input could be made for additional air using piping to the stock location, if needed. As for the flexing of the scoop, I've always thought that if a metal box was built to fit under the scoop it would give the strength needed and be the actual collector while the stock scoop would be just "wrapping" on the outside for looks. That could avoid the flexing of the stock scoop we read about all the time. Of course, whoever designs this has to make a box for my 35th scoop too, and not just the the standard GT. I'd also like a discount for the idea. :)
