question about timing

well i checked the timing to see what it was. It was at 18 deg. I bumped it up to 32 deg. my car is a 86 mustang with a carburated 331 stroker in it with a 58o lift. Is that were it should be at? Also someone said somthing about takin somting out, do i have to do that on my old car?

wow 32 degrees initial timing is set at 32 degree's? If so that is way 2 much. 16 degrees intial is probably good with 20 degrees mech advance looking at 36 degrees total. My 351w has 38 degrees total. But every engine is different. maybe 32-36 total is good.

Yeah assuming that your talking total timing. Have vaccume advance? I'm running 22 initial and 36 total with mechanical advance only.
just a thought but you can have a dizzy worked (different wieghts) so that you have more mechanical advance and less intial. It is harder to start a car with lots of intial and at lower rpm you don't want all that timing. i bet you can pick up torque and hp at the lower rpm's with a good Tune (for lack of a better term) on your dizzy.
