The problem with the LS1 is that it's wrapped in an ugly POS large mouth bass lookin Camaro. While i'm not a huge fan of brand swapping with engines, if i were to build a classic hotrod or something it would probably have an LS1.

Exactly, my fiance really wants a C3 corvette. If I ever do cave to that I'm gonna stuff a carbed LS1 in it.

I bought an 81 vette a year ago that I was going to do that with, but vette parts are disgustingly expensive so I ended up selling it. that is one sexy car though.

Compare a 5.0 Ford to a 305 chevy. hah!

Right, that's the comparison that no bowtie head makes because he knows there's no contest, it's always 5.0 vs. 5.7, and any time you mention 351 vs 351 they have to use the LS1. I think if Ford had plenty of goods to put on the 351 to make it "fast stock" like the Ls1 is but people forget that the 351 was primarily a truck engine and so that's what it was built for. If you take one of each and put similarly flowing intakes and heads on them with similar cams, you won't see much difference if any. Do the same with a 302 vs 305 and the 302 for whatever reason just out torques the 305 by a long shot. I had a buddy with a balanced and blue printed 305 tuned port in an '87 IROC and it couldn't keep up with a bone stock 5.0 '88 5 speed with speed density, let alone a MA 302.

Or compare a 5.0 to other 5.0 Mustangs with similar mods. This is why I race heads up in Mustang racing. Theres no cubic inch dispute, no weight dispute, everyone gets the same rule book and goes at it.

I love LS1 cars, and like their owners (granted the owners might seem cocky when talking to a kid with a 14 second Mustang, who wouldnt?).

Actually a 305 will make more torque than a 302, but the 302 will rev higher, effectively giving it more power. The killer on the 305 was the bore and stroke design, which is why the 5.7 was twice the motor. It was a better design. A 305 T5 car (rare G92) would run right with a 5.0 5-speed car back in the day, and same with the L98 5.7 cars. The TPI 305s with autos were a little slower, the carbed stick cars slower than that and the TBI autos and such were just plain scary slow.

I dont see an issue with comparing two different cars, so long as you accept the outcome. I personally rather compare MY car to other Mustangs with similar work done, to see if I built it right!

Because for a long time these cars were considered a benchmark. 5.0s are still the cars everyone loves to say they beat. Overall though I think saying GM owners shouldn't be proud is pretty weak.

Exactly

I love both the LS1 and the 5.0 i drive. The LS1 has been alot easier to get the power out of, but the 5.0 is just as fun to drive and mod. They are both great motors and easy to mod but after that the LS1 will come out on top mod for mod.

One thing i will say though the fox 5.0 gets the win for being a hell of alot easier to work under the hood on lol. While modding the LS1 now i've questioned alot of what GM has done and why they put the motor 75% under the god damn cowl.

Because the car looks like a Geo Storm on roids. They tried to hard with the aerodynamics and had to put the engine somewhere. It's pretty stupid really.

LS1 are nice engines but the cars they are in to me,are ugly...a mustang is very good looking to me :nice:

but

stock ls1 vs stock 5.0.

the ls1 would take it.

but a 5.0 is the motor i like and the motor i am staying with.....never been a fan of anyhting chevy has done. :notnice:

i mean its kinda like them with the vette.

vette owners rag on mustang owners but they have what over 300 and up horse power from the factory with a 6 speed.

the newest 5.0 you can get(in a mustang) is 93.

like on the net one day i saw. stock 88 mustang gets owned by a STOCK 2006 vette. im like well DUHHHHHHHHHH.

If Ford did one thing right, it was the 5.0HO.
If GM did one thing right, it was the LS1.
GM took it's tried, true, and proven 327 platform SBC and improved it to the LS series engines. Ford on the other hand, just clean sheeted and built an engine that makes less power and cost a lot more to build. Yes, they did a good job with the Cobra engines, but at what cost and time?

I work at a GM dealer, and although every thing they build is a POS, one thing they did right was those engines, actual problems with the engine mechanically are almost unheard of. Ford 4.6/5.4, slinging rods, wearing out before 100K miles, spark plugs blowing out, tons of issues.
my LS1 camaro went through 2 motors in a year!!!! Both due to piston slap!

Correction....the newest 5.0 you can get in a mustang is in a 95 Model. Just a tip of advice Ryan, I am a Ford Advocate, big fan, big passion. However, a true car nut appreciates most vehicles, not one specific model and make. Chevy makes great vehicles, so does ford, and rarely, but occasionally Dodge. I think most people could open their minds up a little bit. If I went rollin' by you in a Chevelle (or insert any great chev/dodge/ford) you would stop in your tracks to admire it, not go "what a piece of ____".

Well said....i'm a Ford man but i love fast cars alltogether, and i admire pretty much ANY car that can be made fast, import or domestic. Now, looks are a whole different ballgame...you can be fast and still look stupid doing it. I don't much mind the SS Camaros as much but without any kind of body kit they just look like a door wedge or something. If i were a Chevy guy i'd have to put an LS1 into an IROC or an older Camaro.

Yeah, my 302 has 250k+ on it and it's just now starting to smoke....i've never heard of an LS1 with that many miles.
