Was going to put my electric fan (proform) in this weekend along with my ac delete and marhc underdrive pullies. However, i just thought, will this fan along with these pullies kill my alternator? i really dont want to upgrade my alternator, so if i do Ill just return the fan....any experiences or opinions appreciated

when mine got put on it was hard wired direct to the battery with a toggle switch under the steering wheel.. ive only blew one fuse, just make sure it dosent stay on after you shut your car off.. that will fry your battery for sure a stock alt should keep a charge on it my 90 holds Well.. Good luck!

the stock alt has a hard enough time running ANY extra eletric components.. Hell, my dash lights dim and brigten with the revs of the car. (just ever so slightly... I've had 3 foxs... all the same)

An underdrive pulley will only further complicate things. Do yourself a favor and buy a 3g alt BEFORE you install that fan.

If you live in the Arctic Circle it might work alright. It's not something I personally would do however.

Good luck.

Try running the headlights, A/C, holding your foot on the brake and a small stereo with a electric fan....

A Overdrivien 3G alternator will supply enough power to run the car without relying on the battery for help. Thus no dipping of the volt-meter when you are in stop and go traffic.

Not saying other setups wont work, but it's was nice being able to turn everything on and not have the volt-meter move in traffic. :)

how about using an altenator from a sn95 i heard those run stronger or it could be from a 4.6(i just heard that), bracket has to be filed a little but would that work? just how much is a 3g in comparison to a rebuilt from your local auto parts store?

:stupid: :stupid:

The week I had that Proform POS on my '88 was plenty of time for me to never buy a thing from that company again.

The only way you could safely run that fan on stock alt would be if you used the DCC controller.. and if you did that, it'd be a waste of money to buy the Proform. Might as well get a junkyard taurus fan and the DCC, pay about what the proform costs, and be set.

Electric fan = 3G alternator if you want long life & reliability from your car.
The electric fan saves some HP. The stock fan's parasitic drag runs from 7-12 HP depending on who you talk to. The electric fan uses about 1/2 HP of power from the electrical system.

Figure this:
Ignition system & computer = 12 amps
Fuel pump = 12 amps
Exterior lights = 15 amps
Fan (heater or A/C) = 15 amps (can run between 5-25 amps depending on setting)
Radio & instruments = 10 amps
Wipers = 10 amps

That's grand total of 74 amps from a 65 amp alternator. Talk about overdrawn at the bank!

Right now i'm running a electric fan, aftermarket ignition (of sorts...it's a Mallory Unilite dissy that has it's own ignition), and the usual tach/stereo stuff, and my stock alt is crying for mercy. I'd venture to say that with UD pullies it would be 10 fold worse.

On top of that, i've got 100w bulbs in my fob lamps, so when the brights come on at night, and the radio is on....i'm on borrowed time...lol. I've got a 3g planned along with a new engine this spring.
