sorry to hear about your hand, but i would just suggest an auto, these new mustangs are sick as an auto as well,(i have heard anyway, mines stick) they have a ton of potential and alot of room to work with with tuners. you wont be dissappionted, btw you can afford a s281 extreme? at 19?

I think my desire for stick is the variability of it. And the price. It's 700 more for an automatic. Add in the cost of tuners, and you end up paying 1000+ more than a manual and you now have an automatic that drones out conversations at 20 mph because it doesn't drop into 2nd. See, I kinda don't ALWAYS wanna take it to the strip.
Automatics are for people who WANT automatics. I'm a manual transmission lover because I just love driving a stick shift car. Driving ANY automatic car is just no fun to me.
If you want a stick, where there's a will, there's a way. Since the invention of the automobile there have been NUMEROUS controls mechanisms put together for special needs. It sounds like you do have your forearm, so I fully expect that there is some sort of shift handle that can be put on the shifter that will allow you to manipulate it.
Much of the skill of handling a manual transmission is with the manipulation of the gas and clutch pedal anyway, so I think the fact that you WANT to drive a stick is the main ingredient.
In the USA, the VAST majority of people drive automatics and have never developed the love for a manual transmission as I have. I'm sure they are happy with their automatics and that's great, but DON'T let them talk you into an automatic if you have your heart set on driving a stick.
I only wish I were there to teach you the art of a manual transmission. I taught both my kids to drive a stick before I would let them NEAR a car with an automatic. They are now 26 and 22 and neither of them will drive anything but a manual transmission car. They are both VERY good at it and derive pleasure from it.
If driving a stick is what you want to do, there is just no reason in the world for you not to do it.

I have not heard of anything out there for your situation. But my guess would be. lengthening the shifter arm to bring it closer to you. Possibly bent at an angle. Then a custom made shifter. Which would probably need me to shaped more like a cup. This would allow you to shift both directions (Towards you, and towards the dash). The trick would be designing the system.

Heinous to even suggest but have you considered a Corvette with the paddleshift?

Only thing I would say is that the Mustang box requires a fairly firm push round the box especially into 2nd.

I'm on the fence on the subject, I to love the ablility to control exactly when (at what RPM) to shift, but I also love
the new auto in spite of myself. I have an auto as my sig states, but it was either '06 auto at 0% or '07 man at God knows what interest. If not for that I would still be dreaming about owning an S197, and the new 5A is fun. I mean it will shift smooth as a Lincoln until you get on it, and then it will rev to 6 grand and shift like it has a kit in it. But enough about me, there is also the problem w/ engaging the auto, as you have to simultaneously press the button while moving the lever into position. I'm not sure if this would be a problem for you or not. It is an issue that you should also consider. Just don't let people
goad you into something you are not comfortable with and never let anyone tell you it's not possible.
There is a quote, something like "The difficult should be done immediately, but the impossible will take some time."
