Hello everyone, new member here saying hi and hoping for a little help.
My 1988 GT needs a total redo of the fuel rails/injectors. This operation is happening in conjunction with a mass air conversion. I probably could get away with the 19 lb injectors but I have a set of new 24s, and a Mass air calibrated for them. The original rails are kind of beat up, so I am replacing them with aftermarket billet rails and adding a FPR to replace the stock. I have limited experience(none) with Ford fuel injection. This is my first mustang so be gentle. I am very unsure of the basics of how I should install this. I have the plastic tools to pop off the factory rails, but am not sure where I should install the aeromotive FPR, if height compared to the rails is an issue. I have about 10 ft of quality braided fuel line and a bunch of small fittings to make the connections, an inline pressure guage I'd like to install, and the aero FPR. I made a small mistake in my prep, the car has a Saleen kit on it all the way down to the rims and steering wheel. If I don't drive it on to a 2x8(front wheels) I can't get a jack under it. So I am unsure which line is the return and which is the feed, I understand the return is smaller under the car. I could use some setup advice and if someone has a schematic of how it should be, I'd really appreciate it.
I've been enjoying the forum and decided to join
and am hoping for some fun here!
Matt

p.s. I did not put the mods on this car, so I am a little fuzzy on some of the specifics like, what size is the TB, what aftermarket fuel pump is it etc.

The pressure line is the smaller diameter of the two lines. The FPR can mount anywhere in the engine compartment that is compatible with the plumbing you have. Russell or Earl's has some adapters that pop in the stock fuel lines to mate them with the AN fittings that are common with aftermarket fuel systems. See www.summitracing.com for more.

Avoid cutting and flaring the stock lines if possible. The AN fittings use a 37 degree flare which will not mate properly with the common 45 degree flare used in automotive work. The 37 degree tools are expensive, most start at $75 and go up from there. See www.mscdirect.com or www.mcmaster.com for more info. Check Summit for a less expensive 37 degree flaring tool.

jrichker,

when you order the russells products it is the bigger of the two a/c connectors on stock fuel rails that is the pressure side, and it is the 5/16" stock steel line that is the pressure and the 1/4" is the return, just did this to my 89 vert and works great

I would suggest that you do one or the other project first and not both at the same time. That way if you have to trouble shoot possible problems you won't have to hunt so hard to narrow it down.

I got the TrickFlow fuel rail kit.

Its nothing but the Aeromotive fuel rails and FRP
it came with all the braided lines and AN fittings and adaptors
to connect right up to the factory quick disconnects.

I mounted the FRP on the passngr strut tower.

Nice kit.

I would have liked to do the upgrades one at a time as well but I went the route of replacing the computer and harness completely not the 4 wires splice job some do. So I was committed to installing the MAM etc etc. I was thinking of using a couple self tapping sheet metal screws and installing the FPR on the firewall in the middle, good idea or bad? I'll be making up the braided lines myself so hopefully I don't mess up and wind up with one too short somehow, I have 10 ft of the stuff.
Also, fastfox86 if thats your car in your sig, have you dyno-ed it? It is fairly similar to mine in upgrades.

yeah that's my current setup. No dyno numbers at the moment, but I fgure it's close to 300 at the crank. I'm getting ready to do my h/c/i swap with a few other small goodies and then I'm going to dyno it. I might do a baseline before the swap if I have time and money.
