Green Day for TEH WIN :D

My favorite band... go ahead... ridicule me people, I DON"T CARE!!! :D

Agreed. Been listening to since 94' and I dont care what anyone says. Green Day are the pioneers of punk music. They werent the first to start it, but they were the first to be successful at it. If it wasnt for Green Day you wouldnt have much for punk these days.

I've got all 9 cd's and an independant mini-lp. Best was seeing them live, though.

I expected that request...lol.

RsStang, as I said, Green Day werent the first, as I agree with Sex Pistols, but how successful were they outside of the UK? Sex Pistols were one of the first, if not the first, and they laid the foundation for other punk bands. But it was Green Day that made the highway.

Blondie was considered punk.. Ill admit the first bunch of greenday cds were great but you kinda have to admit lately they are trying to be too emoish and they jumped on a totally different sound then punk.

Staring out of my window
Watching the cars go rolling by
My friends are gone
I've got nothing to do
So I sit here patiently
Watching the clock tick so slowly
Gotta get away
Or my brains will explode

Give me something to do to kill some time
Take me to that place that I call home
Take away the strains of being lonely
Take me to the tracks at Christie Road

See the hills from afar
Standing on my beat up car
The sun went down and the night fills the sky
Now I feel like me once again
As the train comes rolling in
Smoked my boredom gone
Stopped (corrected by strype)my brains up so high

Give me something to do to kill some time
Take me to that place that I call home
Take away the strains of being lonely
Take me to the tracks at Christie Road

Mother stay out of my way of that place we go
We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road

Mother stay out of my way of that place we go
We'll always seem to find our way to Christie Road

If there's one thing that I need
That makes me feel complete
So I go to Christie Road
It's home...

Drag - As I said...twice, Green Day was not the first. I could think of plenty of bands that started earlier or at the same time. What I stated was that none of them had the success that Green Day did. And it didnt start out as mainstream success, I listened to them when they werent played on MTV 50 times a day, it was a worldy success. They played everywhere, they were what every punk group wanted to be. And they were punk, they werent mainstream pop, the musical culture has grown to accept the "punk" style and music. Therefore, it takes harder, whinier, and faster punk bands to truly be labeled as "punk" anymore.

Myself personally, like very few punk groups on any level these days. I dont like the mainstream punk, and I dont like the non mainstream, I prefer the old school. Give me OLD AFI, any Green Day (I've aged with it, I can say), Rancid, Distillers, Sex Pistols, I dont care. Point being, Music has turned to crap. Were Green Day pioneers? Abso-friggin-lutly.

RsStang - Yes, I will agree with you that Green Day has both mellowed it and changed their tone. But similar to what I said above, is that being that all the groups have conformed to one universal sound, that what Green Day did put out for the last couple of cd's is kind of refreshing. Would I rather listen to the first 4-5 cds Green Day put out rather than the last 4-5? Yeah...for the most part. But I've grown up with the band, and I dont like one genre of music anymore, so I still jam to the new tunes as I still enjoy them. To sum it up, yes their style has changed, but they're still great in my books.
