any one know a practical way to squeeze a little more low end grunt from our cars. I dont want to swap in a turbo and this is the only area that I am unhappy with about the car. I hate having to wait for a mile gap between cars before I jump out into traffic.

Are you a large man? I could gain 15 hp if I went on a diet. You could put the car on one too. I just did a home based Ram Air Intake on mine, and it gave a great little boost, suprisingly especially at low end, and not so much up high. IF you want the details you can pm me. Not gonna share my secrets with people who will laugh cause it only cost me 8 dollars plus some simple materials I had around the house. It looks good and it works good though, so if you don't mind a good days work for about 4-6 max hp boost, it's worth a try. (goes best with low restriction exhaust and requires a few deletions you may have already made)

I weigh about 185 is that large???
I removed the baffles from my silencer and it gave me a little more pep, but nothing that I would brag about.
will putting a cone filter in the fender give me noticable gains?I am also thinking about removing the pre cats. anyone done this? I have heard that the car will run like crap if I take the cats off, but I will never for the life of me understand the importance of pre-cats.

The cone filter alone would be like 1hp or so, and the cats cause crappy runing because the engine requires a certain amount of back pressure to run properly. I would reccomend replacing your cats with performance cats that will free up flow, without making it A: Too free and B: enviornmentally unfriendly. Cause hey, this world might suck, but it's the only one we got. For an off-road app. catless isn't so bad with a more restrictive muffler, but for DD, you're gonna be pumping those green house gases all day, everyday.

1.) That depends on how tall you are. :D

2.)The "pre" cat convertor is just the first one followed by another. I think it's there to clean up the emissions a bit more. The car will run fine without them, but it actually is nice to drive a car that doesn't stink sometimes. A high-flow cat can be had for less than $60.

nah, this is def a gas or exhaust smell. its coming from the engine, but I cant track it down. as long as I am not idling for a while its not too bad.
btw I am 6'1. I be skinny

One of my cats was plugged and my car got pretty overheated on the way to work one day. When I got there I popped the hood and the manifold was BRIGHT red, surprised it didn't melt. I got under the car and cut them both off.

This was over a month ago and to me the car runs better than ever. I realize this might not be the best comparision since they were bad so I don't know what a good one drives like, but I really enjoy the way it drives. I have not had any exhaust smell either and I have a conv. so if the rest of the exhaust is good exhaust smell shouldn't be a problem.
