Is it possible for any mustang to beat C6 ZO6 on a street?

Hey guys, we all love mustangs... But let's be realistic for a moment: is it possible for a heavily modded mustang to beat a stock 07 corvette ZO6 in 1/4 mile... on a regular street?
I personally doubt and here's why:
1. We all seen fast stangs at the dragstrips. But don't forget the asphalt there is almost perfectly sticky. The situation on the streets is totally different.
2. Even if you got slicks, at a regular street it won't give you any more traction, b/c they are not hot enough. Unless you will act like a total ass by doing a burnout at a stoplight B4 the race.
3. ZO6 got close to 50/50 weight distribution. Try to get this with your nose heavy s/c mustang. The result will be more or less like GT500.

This is not a question if the stang is designed to beat ZO6. Question is is it possible?

I say yes. You are correct in that the car will need alot of mods, either a SC or turbo just to get the same HP. On the tire thing I have drag radials and use them all the time. They are very sticky from just driving a couple of miles. Just ask anyone who follows me and gets road gravel tossed at them.

Well I have a supercharged 466rwhp 5 speed S197 and my buddy in his C5 Z06 with 420rwhp pulled 3 1/2 car lengths on me from 45-145mph!

Now a C6 Z06 puts down about 475rwhp stock.

I think I'll need about 485+rwhp to keep up with a 420rwhp Vette.

Now also keep this in mind, any Mustang with a blower/turbo will be fighting intake air temps as they race. If the race is high speed you can count on the Mustang pulling timing which in effect will lower the power. A N/A 7.0 liter Vette will have 475rwhp the whole time.

Yes, stangs are too heavy. I think to compensate 500 lbs weight difference and F/R bias S197 got to have at least 600hp to the wheels just to keep up with C6 Zo6. Plus, some skills not to screw up.:bang:

Just curious if you were having traction issues with the 20" rims and tires?
My buddy has since he went with the foose 20"s, his would break loose all the time before the blower. Now with close to 500 at the wheels with a vortec its even worse. He still has the 3.55 in his.
Have you changed you rear gears at all or are you using the 3.55's still?

I'm thinking it would be possible. If you are talking about heavily modded stangs. Then I can imagine a mustang with about as much money in it as the z06 possibly beating the z06. Maximum motorsports has been working on an IRS. And there is always the controls freaks IRS. And I have heard a lot of people talking about different SLA front suspensions coming. You would then just need the power to keep up.

The Vette's power-to-weight ratio means, as has already been stated, lots of FI power and great traction is on order.

Our cars are heavy, as "VegaGTs" example shows. The Z06 is right at 3100lbs with 505hp, nasty. Going to take a lot to beat that.

I've got 9.5 and 10.5 x 20 rims wearing 275/35's all round. Back tires are a little too small but will do for now. I have no traction issues even with the HO Vortech fitted. I use Dunlop Sportmaxx tires. I still use the 3.55s but find 1st gear is largely redundant mainly through running out of revs too quickly rather than a traction issue.

You must live in a fresh pavement city. In Las Vegas, for example, I almost always get my tires spinning when I ride in the first gear and I floor my gas pedal at 5000 rpms.
I've got 4:11 gears and only 280 RWHP.

Is this question even being discussed? Come on guys! The answer is, sure, anything is POSSIBLE. Give me your mustang, two years for development, and 277 billion dollars, and I'll bring you a S197 Mustang that can fly into orbit and do Mach 23. Is it going to happen? No. Are you going to beat a 70,000 dollar, carbon fiber fendered vette with a 200 HP and 2.5 liter displacement advantage on you. Not likely.

I can tell you from my own experience...when the '05s came out a Mineral Grey attempted to take me (I was in my '01 Vette Coup...which I still own and drive mainly on weekends) from a stop light...he stayed pretty much with me until I hit 3rd gear and then I easily began to pull away from him....so I don't think so...(also the C6 has about 50HP and more torque than my C5)...

I am actually very happy with the traction I have. I am running Falken 451s and they hook up well. Stock gears.

Ya Vegas is the worst for traction.

According to Car & Driver:

'07 Z06 0-60 in 3.5 secs 1/4 mile in 11.7 secs
'06 Viper SRT10 0-60 in 3.8 secs 1/4 mile in 12.1 secs
'07 Ferrari F430 Spider F1 0-60 in 3.9 secs 1/4 mile in 12.1 secs
'05 Ford GT 0-60 in 3.6 secs 1/4 mile in 12.0 secs
'03 Lamborghini Murcielago 0-60 in 3.8 secs 1/4 mile in 12.6 secs
'06 Mosler MT900S 0-60 in 3.1 secs 1/4 mile in 11.0 secs
http://www.caranddriver.com/roadtests/10768/road-test-review-2006-mosler-mt900s.html
'06 Porsche 911 Turbo 0-60 in 3.4 secs 1/4 mile in 11.7 secs
'06 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo 0-60 in 3.4 secs 1/4 mile in 10.9 secs

Of these cars only 3 of them can beat the Z06 in straightline acceleration and they all cost many times more!!!!! I agree with jlisle01...it IS possible, but would take an incredible amount of money for power and suspension upgrades and then the driver ability on top of that to get that power to the ground.
It is a nice goal to strive for to say you can beat an '07 Z06, but to start with you're talking about apples and oranges!!!!!
Without a doubt the Z06 has to be the best show room stock production car for the money offered today.

Absolutely! A shop here in town has 2 of them as shop cars. One has a Procharger and the other has twin turbos! Boy I can't wait to go for a ride in one of those.

Well, since the statement allows for anything (by saying "is it possible?"), then yes it is. As stated before, it is VERY unlikley. When you state "heavily modified", I assume anything goes.

By putting lots of green into your 'Stangs suspension, adding significant power adders (built twin turbo set-up), and assuming both drivers are equal; I can see the Stang beating the Z06.

I'm going to venture and say that on a '05+ Stang, and $20,000 (in parts/labor) you would beat the Z06.

And yes, I agree, bang for the buck, cureently, the Z06 is the best stock production value!!

I'd rather have the Ford GT (not because I'm brand loyal) but because I think they are just the neatest car; plus, they'll do 11's stock also.
