Please forgive me but I'm completely sick of the one wheel spin. :bang: Gone through three LSDs and I'm still on one wheel... I just want one that works.

I used the "Search" feature in looking up different rear ends, I'm heavily leaning towards the TrueTrac from Detroit. So I'd like to address those of you who have one. :flag: How well does it work for you??

My boss has one in his K5 Blazer that he uses in mud and drives it on the street. He loves it and it free wheels around a corner as long as you let it coast around the corner. But if you give it gas in the corner it lockes up. You can hear the ratchet action in the corner .....it's kinda neat.

Cornering is a big issue with me. Right now when I'm sitting in traffic waiting to make a turn I'm always thinking how long it will take me to pick up to speed after the turn, mainly because I almost always have one wheel spinning through the turn and continue with the one wheel peel when I really want to take off. Even if I back off and then hit it, just one wheel...

That said, no I'm not mashing the gas, even if it sounds like it. The 351w swap puts a lots of low end torque out, and with a 3,000 stall it wants to just fly as soon as you tough the gas. That's why I'm really into trying to get a good rear. Having all the great tires and traction add ons doesn't matter if you have one wheel spinning on you all the time...

Anyway, I'd love a rear to lock when I gun it. Turning out into an opening into traffic and then just powering up sounds sooooo sweet!!

Spools are cheap but not for the street :D . I'm glad you posted this cause i'm in the process this weekend to go get me one to! Blew the clutches in the rarend at the end of last year so it's time for a new one! I want the spool but it's not street friendly tho, so i feel these are the next best thing! If i get mine first and if the rain ever stops here now i'll let ya know how it is! peace

I like mine!

I need to qualify this a bit first though. I have it in an 8.8 that I've put in my '66 with 3.55 gears. What I don't have is any HP (straight 6), what I do have is suspension that will easily push a 0.99 lateral G, and some very rough canyon roads.
So, I can tell you it works exceptionally well for carving the back roads even when the pavement is so rough the car drifts. I did a little off road "rally style" and it was awesome.
I have read that the early versions had an issue with the end cap bolts. I have not read or heard any complaints with the later style.
This thing is built like a brick. I've got some pictures of the build on the web site in my signature.

BTW: I'm looking for a '90-'93 GT 5spd as a donor car, so if you know someone in the S.F. bay area with a runner (crashed, or salvage title is OK) let me know.
Thanks,

Scott

Hey, were getting some good feedback already. Keep it coming! If this TrueTrac works as well as it claims then we should share the info!

As for the spool, let's say I was very tempted... The thought of squeeling around all the corners of my parking garage at work kept me looking other solutions though. If not for that I'd probably already have a spool in there! There's a lot about those things I love.

Side issue: My front sway bar is crushing my oil pan!! I just looked under the car as I had a slight ATF leak (hose clamp issue), and saw where my sway bar has been crunching my oil pan on hard turns. Anybody seen this before??

I have to say that the TrueTrac comes off sounding really nice, and that everything anyone has had to say about it is positive. I can't help wondering why there haven't been very many responses though? In our whole realm of Stangnet are there only a few people who either have or have an opinion about this rear?

Many thanks to those who have responded, and thanks in advance to those who will!

I have it in my 66 behind a 475FWHP 347ci. Currie 9" rear end, 3.70's, 31 spline axles. I have had it for four years and it has perfect manners on the street and has held strong to well over 100 passes on slicks at the track.

I just got a trans brake and it hits that rear end really hard now, no worries, highly recommend.

When I do a gear swap this winter to 4.11 ratio, it will be the first time the third member has been out.

You sure your talking about the True-Trac and the Detroit Locker? Not doubting you, just making sure. I wonder if the Tru-Trac for the 9" is stronger than the 8.8"?

Either way i've never heard of someone hurting one, I plan on getting one when my stock posi blows up behind 450rwhp and slicks.

I always thought a Detroit Locker would be fun but the price tag always stopped me from doing it. Last time I checked they were like 530.00. I run a spool in my '84 and I rebuilt the Traction lok in my '87 two years ago. I used the alternating clutch method and an F-150 S-spring. It's still tight as hell. Holding up great. What are you guys doing to burn them up so quick?

I'm sure, I custom ordered the rear end from Currie and I'm sure that anything in a 9" is going to be stronger than an 8.8".

Let me start by saying, you CANNOT get a better lsd than a Truetrac. It is a copy of the legendary Torsen lsd. It is gear driven so there are no clutches to toast etc.

They also make them for 4wd's and I fitted them front and rear on my Cobra powered 4Runner and they were awesome. Road manners are exceptional.

But being a 4wd I always wanted a full locker such as the ARB air locker but being open centre for the road use meant they were useless with a V8 etc.

Then I heard Tractech were developing an Electrac which is a Truetrac that can also be fulling locked electrically. Problem was they were not available for the Toyota diff only Dana's.

I liked the Truetrac lsd on the road so much I have since built a special Toyota diff housing that uses a Dana44 specifically so I could get the Electrac.

Its now been in for several years and I still have the awesome Truetrac LSD but can now fully lock it etc. The electrac is the BEST combo ever built for a 4wd, period.

Get a Truetrac, you will NOT be disappointed :D

I typically take this kind of propaganda with a grain of salt, but just for the sake of argument: what's your (everyone's) opinion of the Aubern Pro add with the graph showing their lsd putting more power to the ground than a bunch of other brands (including the Detroit TT, and by a considerable %). Just curious.

I don't put any stock in advertisements, the statistics they use are just too subjective. All they have to do is create an unfair test/sample to go off of and they can claim to walk on water and not get sued.

I still have a few months to wait till I have the money to spend, but the TrueTrac has gotten some good plugs from the Stangnet crew, so I'll probably go with that one.

Plus I'm thinking of switching to 4.10 gears at the same time. I love the 3.73s, but there's always that itch for an extra horse of so. If anyone has a comment go ahead an pitch in.

which is the best differential for road racing?? and doing 90 degree turns at 45mph?

Looks like you found the right post alright. That's exactly what this one is about. According to the info I've found and the feedback I've gotten so far it looks like the TrueTrac will be the best.

Unless someone comes out and posts something bad about it I'm going to buy it. Everything so far has been really positive. Plus the way the worm gears work allows for ultra smooth cornering, and if they lock up the way there supposed to when you put power to them then they will fullfil both our needs perfectly.
