Header Bolts

When I bought my Mac 1-5/8" shorty headers, they came with 3/4" long bolts.

I did not use them.I went out and bought 1" long header bolts...the same length the factory used.

With 3/4",theres not much thread left after passing through the header flange + the gasket.

I don`t know why this 3/4" length is popular.

I had bought 1" ARP header bolts for use on a set of Hooker Headers on AFR 165s, the 1" were 1/4" too long and just bottomed out in the cylinder head without the head of the bolt ever contacting the header flange. 3/4" was the right size.

I f i was you now would be the time to buy stage 8 header bolts that have the locks on them. nothing worse then rear bolt falling out and blowing the head gasket.

How could loose header bolts be responsible for blowing a head gasket?

I heard the threads aren`t deep enough on the AFR heads for 1" bolts.
Doesn`t sound like a good idea on their part, especially with an aluminum head.

I`ve read stories of more than a few guy`s stripping the threads on them.

I went to a local supplys store, and got 3/8-16x3/4" that size bolts. But I got them with the hex style caps, so I can use an allan wrench instead of wiggling the sockets around the tubes.
