Its hard to argue any new vette these days. The performance is fantastic and they come at a great value. The only thing ****ty on the new z06 is the roof falls off but other then that its a great car! lol

I'd rather have a roof panel fly off than cracked front & rear control arms like the '05 Ford GT's had on early production runs!

funny how you guys bring up price yet the GT500 is about half as much the Z06.... The Z06 is no joke in terms of performance, but other than that it falls short on just about everything else.
It is funny that you say it is half the price when i see it going for 60,000 plus??? at the sealers<<< I know that the MSRP is 42,000 but no one is getting even close to that price???

That and the fact that you can actually FIND a ZO6 for MSRP whereas the Ford dealerships are still ass raping the public on the GT500's.

i've seen them go for way below the 60,000+ now adays... its all on how bad you want to look... I can find a dealership that may be charging more than msrp for a Z06 and find a Ford dealer that is selling at or even below msrp. Its plain and simple you wanted the Z06 more than the GT500, nothing wrong with that, but i hate it when people bring up the price factor.

Let's be reasonable, it's a TON easier finding a fair deal on a Z06 than a Shelby. A ton. Let's not allow Ford bias to blind us completely...

All of the dealers in my area have been delivering Z06's at MSRP for months now... Not so with the Shelby, not even close.

A friend of mine just stopped by with his black Z06... That's certainly the color to have, it looked sinister...

the point i'm making isnt ease, its if you want it you'll find it.... I found one at 45K..... and it was only a quick "autotrader.com" search.

I have driven a Ford GT and there is no question it is way more exotic.... but faster it isnt!....

really... show me where the ZO6 beats the Ford GT id love to see it....

Well other then the 1st MotorTrend test of the Ford GT the two cars have been within 2 tenths of each other in everyother head to head 1/4 mile runs.
I was simply saying that after driving both they feel pretty much equal in the power department. I would love to line them up and find out, but my friends GT is a garage queen.. he never drives it... just like most of them!!! My Z06 is on the road everyday.

You're right, they are close, but I tend to place more weight on trap-speed than e.t..

I'd agree that a standing-start 1/4-mile run between a GT and a Z06 would be mostly driver-determined.

But judging by all observed magazine tests where the GT has consistantly been 127-132 through the traps (which is flat-out hauling the groceries..), and a couple of dyno comparison's I've seen that both showed the GT's 550 factory rating is conservative at-best.... from a 30-mph roll where the launch is eliminated (which accounts for most of the driver fudge-factor) I'd have my money on the GT all day, every day..

It is impressive how well the Z06 times on road courses, but it's said to be a real handful to obtain those times, whereas the GT is less nasty at the edge of grip.

Miscellaneous ramblings... Both awesome cars, two different price-points and levels of "exotic".

So you are saying that stock to stock the GT will run right with the Z??? What magazine says that it will run trap of 127 to 132???
The best i seen the GT run was 12.2 stock
and the best i seen the Z run stock was 10.85 trap at 129.5>>>on DR. and Ranger did that.

Allow me to quote myself from earlier in this thread...

Funny you mention that, but in my latest issue of Car & Driver (November) (I know I'm magazine racing here) they have a new method for testing cars now called the Lightning Lap. They put their best drivers in the car and then race it around the Virginia International Raceway and measure things like corner entry speeds, straightaway speeds, overall lap times, etc. The ZO6 was only .4 tenths of a second slower and .2 MPH less than the Ford GT per lap!

The ZO6 looks better and better to me every day!

U.M.

As stated previously, drag racing these two cars comes down more to the drivers ability to get a good launch. On a road course with the same driver behind the wheel these two cars are very, very close.

Any magazine will give you 127-132 mph, any magazine... Just go to the one you've got with the 12.2 in it, and you'll see a 127 or-more mph trap speed associated with it... And why are you even COMPARING Ranger's run on DR's, what's the point in apples/oranges comparisons?? Stock vs. stock on street tires, period. Once you start messing with things, switching to a drag tire, it's a who-cares discussion.

Yes, on a road course, they are amazingly close. My only point was that from what I've read, the Z06 is capable of running close, but far tougher to drive at that level. You could give a GT one heck of a run, but one slip-up and it could bite back hard.

To say that the Z06 is faster than the GT just because Joe Blow ran a blah-blah with race tires and who-knows-what-else isn't being divulged would be ingenuous. To say that it's close enough to save $80 flippin grand is eminently VALID.

Ok I think I misunderstand I'm talking about the Mustang GT 500 not the GT 40...I have not seen a Stock mustang GT500 run any trap times even near 127 >>> stock

Yes, I was talking GT40, which is actually correctly the "GT", as the rights to the GT40 name belong to some British guy, and when he tried to extort a ridiculous amount of money to allow Ford to use it again, they simply went with "GT" (which was what the original cars were originally known as before the 40 was added afterthefact) and told the British guy to kiss their collective arses.

Yeah, you couldn't run that kind of mph in a GT500 unless you gutted the thing and ran it downhill..... or mod it considerably....

Thanks for letting me know how that works with the GT I just learned something new. never to old to learn...
